Sunday's harvest includes 33 Sunchocola, 33 Orange Paruche, 19 Matt's Wild Cherry, 16 SunGold, 8 Garden Peach(1), 7 Yellow Perfection, 6 Evan's Purple Pear, 6 Sugar Snack, 5 Earliana, 4 Bloody Butcher, 4 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 4 Blue Beauty (10.5 ounces, 8 ounces, 8 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 4 Indigo Rose, 4 Husky Cherry Red(2), 3 Adriana's Grande (6 ounces), 3 Snow White, 3 Garden Peach(2), 2 Speckled Roman(2), 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Nyagous, 2 Stupice, 2 Husky Cherry Red(1), Indigo Apple, Bread and Salt, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(1) (7 ounces), Green Grape and Garden Peach(3) for a total of 177 tomatoes.
The party was quite a success. I've been told that everyone had a good time though the participation was lighter than in years past. The weather was fabulous. It's almost guaranteed to be the coolest party in July, temperature-wise. I think it got up to 83 degrees. One of the parties had highs of 104 degrees. Let's say most of that party was indoors. That year we had window air conditioners which couldn't keep everything temperate (now we have an HVAC installed).
The dishes we put out were loved by just about everyone. A green chili salsa was brought by my mother in law and a caprese salad showed up, both simply great. A cheesecake showed up, people brought wine and whatnot. We're immensely grateful. My wife and cousin are deserving of all the accolades. I just stand around and look pretty.
The Blue Beauty tomatoes are just that, absolutely beautiful tomatoes. They are the highlight of today's harvest.
We've now harvested over 2500 tomatoes in July (2668), over 1500 front yard tomatoes in July (1579) and over 700 Sunchocola tomatoes this year!

Harvested Blue Beauty!
Today's harvest includes 52 Sunchocola, 41 Orange Paruche, 16 Matt's Wild Cherry, 12 SunGold, 5 Black Cherry, 4 Bloody Butcher, 4 Garden Peach(2), 4 Garden Peach(3), 4 Sugar Snack, 3 Earliana, 3 Jaune Flamme, 2 German Orange Strawberry (12.5 ounces), 2 Hungarian Heart, 2 Pineapple (6 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Indigo Rose, 2 Snow White, Blue Beauty (new, 11.5 ounces), Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Yellow Perfection, Berkeley Tie Dye, Bread and Salt, Ananas Noire (8 ounces), Speckled Roman(2), Garden Peach(1), Husky Cherry Red(1) and Husky Cherry Red(2) for a total of 168 tomatoes.

I'm not sure this image does this tomato justice. The burnt orange color on the underside is more vibrant than shown. The contrast with the blue streaking at the shoulders is striking.
We had our largest front yard total today (108). The Thursday sprinklers went off as planned but I didn't try to beat them this time. I harvested the front yard first, leaving the wet back yard for last. I'm sure I didn't hunt for tomatoes as diligently as I normally do (note the lack of Evan's Purple Pear today) as everything was wet.
A Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) is maturing.
We've now harvested over 2000 tomatoes in July (2055)!

Harvested Speckled Roman(1)!
Today's harvest includes 47 Orange Paruche, 33 Sunchocola, 19 Matt's Wild Cherry, 17 SunGold, 11 Sugar Snack, 7 Garden Peach(2), 4 Husky Cherry Red(2), 3 Berkeley Tie Dye, 3 Indigo Rose, 2 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 2 Adriana's Grande (11 ounces, 12.5 ounces), 2 Pineapple, 2 Evan's Purple Pear, 2 Black Cherry, 2 Garden Peach(1), Speckled Roman(1) (new), Bloody Butcher, Earl of Edgecombe, German Orange Strawberry (6 ounces), Earliana, Bread and Salt (6 ounces), Hungarian Heart, Snow White, Persimmon(1), Husky Cherry Red(1) and Garden Peach(3) for a total of 167 tomatoes.
I figured it was time for Speckled Roman(1) to have a growing tomato so I knelt down next to it. As I knelt I saw a maturing tomato. When I touched the tomato it fell right off into my hands. Sightwise it didn't seem quite ready but all other indicators said it was. So we have another new tomato harvested!
During the harvest I was telling myself that yesterday will probably be the high water mark for the year. But when I put in the numbers I was very surprised to see we had the same total as yesterday (167). Yesterday had larger tomatoes, however.
Afterwards, I pulled out Pierce's Pride and Brad's Black Heart. I noticed some SunGolds I should have harvested, but left them on the vine. So today's total could have been bigger than yesterday.

In general, I have better luck with the yellow tagged tomato seedlings at Tomatomania events. The seedlings from other growers act as if they've been more exposed to the elements. They tend to not grow has high nor flourish as much. For instance, I don't think I have a non-yellow tag this year whose plant five feet tall or more.
While I have several yellow tagged tomato plants over six feet tall, I've had some poor luck with yellow tagged brown heirloom tomatoes this year. Vorlon, Brad's Black Heart, Pierce's Pride and Black Seaman have all died early. And come to think of it, in general, I can't think of the last brown heirloom tomato that has gone bonkers in several years. Perhaps Black Krim or Black From Tula from a few years ago. Sunchocola has gone absolutely bonkers this year but that's a hybrid.
We've now grown over 1500 front yard tomatoes for the year (1524), over 1000 front yard tomatoes in July (1058) and over 200 SunGold tomatoes (211) this year!

Harvested Over 1500 Tomatoes For The Year!
Today's harvest includes 29 Sunchocola, 22 Orange Paruche, 12 SunGold, 12 Sugar Snack, 10 Matt's Wild Cherry, 6 Earl of Edgecombe (6 ounces), 5 Earliana, 4 Bread and Salt (6 ounces, 8 ounces, 8 ounces), 3 Yellow Perfection, 3 Adriana's Grande (15.5 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 2 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 2 Nyagous, German Orange Strawberry (12 ounces), Ananas Noire (19 ounces), Jaune Flamme, Black Krim, Snow White, Evan's Purple Pear, Black Cherry, Husky Cherry Red(1) and Michael Pollan for a total of 119 tomatoes.
I got up early today to beat the Thursday morning sprinklers...but they went on earlier than expected. I had finished the main area and had moved to the raised bed area when the sprinklers kicked on. I harvested, then waited and waited...eventually I decided I had to get wet and get on with it. I harvested the front yard, then realized I forgot to look at Matt's Wild Cherry. While harvesting that plant I spotted another ripe Nyagous.
Today's Ananas Noire is our first harvested tomato that is over one pound. And it's a beauty. Again, if you were to look at it you would not think it was ready...but if you feel it, it's ready.
No new tomatoes today, but we have now harvested over 1500 tomatoes for the year (1587).
At the present pace we'll not get to my estimate of 5250 harvested tomatoes for July. We're on a pace for about 3000 tomatoes for July. But the harvest numbers are picking up again...

Harvested German Orange Strawberry and Black Krim!
Today's harvest includes 29 Sunchocola, 20 Orange Paruche, 14 SunGold, 11 Sugar Snack, 9 Matt's Wild Cherry, 3 Adriana's Grande (7.5 ounces, 11 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 3 Earl of Edgecombe (6 ounces), 3 Earliana, 3 Jaune Flamme, 3 Garden Peach(3), 2 Indigo Apple, 2 Bloody Butcher, German Orange Strawberry (new, 13.5 ounces), Black Krim (new), Bread and Salt (7.5 ounces), Nyagous, Odoriko, Garden Peach(1), Green Grape, Husky Cherry Red(1), Berkeley Tie Dye and Michael Pollan for a total of 112 tomatoes.
Today is the largest harvest number so far, barely surpassing the 110 tomato harvest on July 3. The back yard tomatoes are coming in larger numbers. The back yard harvest for the last four days has been 21/29/42/47. The back yard harvest on July 3 was 12.
Today's harvest was pretty. We're getting larger tomatoes as we get later in to the season. The German Orange Strawberry was both a surprise and an absolute beauty. But don't disregard the three Adriana's Grande (the three larger red tomatoes in the image below) and the three Earl of Edgecombe (bright orange tomatoes in front that look yellowish in the image). Odoriko is the tomato to the right with the slight purplish tinge. Black Krim is the brown tomato in the back.
Last night we taste tested Earl of Edgecombe, Michael Pollan, Bread and Salt and Berkeley Tie Dye. All were quite good. Last night's Bread and Salt was the best one I've tasted of that variety. This indicates to me I may have been harvesting Bread and Salt a day too late. This Bread and Salt was firmer than others and that made a positive difference. Berkeley Tie Dye was delicious with a bit of acid at the end. The Michael Pollan tomato was the best tasting of that variety that she has ever had. Earl of Edgecombe was quite good as well.
Green Zebra and Golden Rave have maturing tomatoes. But it is clear that Green Zebra is a mislabel. There are no stripes in the tomato...

Harvested Black Cherry and Pineapple!
Today's harvest includes 22 Sunchocola, 18 Orange Paruche, 10 SunGold, 8 Matt's Wild Cherry, 4 Sugar Snack, 3 Snow White, 2 Black Cherry (new), 2 Adriana's Grande (8 ounces, 12.5 ounces), 2 Earliana, 2 Evan's Purple Pear, 2 Michael Pollan, Pineapple (new), Volunteer(4), Indigo Rose, Jaune Flamme, Yellow Perfection, Bread and Salt (6 ounces), Nyagous, Persimmon(2), Cherokee Purple, Garden Peach(1), Garden Peach(2), Husky Cherry Red(1) and Husky Cherry Red(2) for a total of 88 tomatoes.
The new Pineapple tomato wasn't a surprise. It looks nice but it's small for a Pineapple tomato. We're used to one pounders and this one wasn't close to that size. But it's a start! The Black Cherry tomatoes were a bit of a surprise, however.
The front yard tomato harvest has fallen for five days in a row (98/64/57/52/48/46) and that can't be a coincidence. We're on the tail end of the first wave for Orange Paruche and Sunchocola. The back yard numbers are starting to rise again, which is expected. The back yard is usually two to three weeks behind the front yard.
The "corner office" tomato plants are looking a little better. These plants were significantly behind in their normal development. These plants have a hedge to the south that blocks a good portion of the sun and had pumpkin vines running through most of the plants. The pumpkin vines both hindered and protected these plants. The vines were pulled out about three weeks ago. Meanwhile, the remaining tomato plants seem less wispy and happy to see more of the sun.
I had the rest of the Ananas Noire last night. In general, I like Ananas Noire but I'm not in love with it. My wife just loves it. And based on this tomato I can see why. It was pleasant to look at, a pretty texture, delicious and a close to refreshing taste. This was a damn good tomato!

Harvested Ananas Noire and Persimmon(2)!
Today's harvest includes 29 Orange Paruche, 12 Sunchocola, 5 Janet's Jacinthe Jewel, 5 Matt's Wild Cherry, 4 SunGold, 4 Husky Cherry Red(2), 3 Husky Cherry Red(1), 3 Indigo Apple, Ananas Noire (new, 14 ounces), Persimmon(2) (new), Adriana's Grande, Earl of Edgecombe, Earliana, Jaune Flamme, Garden Peach(1) and Sugar Snack for a total of 73 tomatoes.
Well, three days is a trend...we've gone from 110 tomatoes on July 3 down to 73 today. I'll attribute to simply Sunchocola and Orange Paruche losing some steam while the larger tomatoes haven't matured yet. I can see plenty of Sunchocola tomatoes on the vines, so there's more coming...just not as many maturing as there was a few days ago.
I was concerned about harvesting Ananas Noire. It felt ready but didn't look ready. Turns out I needn't be concerned. My wife cut off a portion of Ananas Noire for us to eat and it was both refreshing and delicious! It was ready.
Tomorrow I'll harvest one or two Berkeley Tie Dye tomatoes.
Yesterday my wife pulled Janet's Jacinthe Jewel and Vorlon. Today's Janet's Jacinthe Jewel might be used in a sauce but otherwise they don't look too appetizing. Pierce's Pride isn't long for this world, either.

I'll attribute to simply Sunchocola and Orange Paruche losing some steam while the larger tomatoes haven't matured yet. I can see plenty of Sunchocola tomatoes on the vines, so there's more coming...just not as many maturing as there was a few days ago.
I was concerned about harvesting Ananas Noire. It felt ready but didn't look ready. Turns out I needn't be concerned. My wife cut off a portion of Ananas Noire for us to eat and it was both refreshing and delicious! It was ready.

Harvested Persimmon(1)!
Friday's harvest includes 37 Orange Paruche, 20 Sunchocola, 11 SunGold, 7 Sugar Snack, 4 Garden Peach(2), 3 Janet's Jacinthe Jewel (7 ounces), 3 Matt's Wild Cherry, 2 Earliana, 2 Husky Cherry Red(2), Stupice, Persimmon(1) (new), Earl of Edgecombe, Bread and Salt (10 ounces), Volunteer(4), Snow White, Evan's Purple Pear and Garden Peach(3) for a total of 98 tomatoes.
It's good to see that we still can grow Persimmon (from the tomato lady of Beverly Hills, not this Persimmon) but it is miniscule compared to several years ago. We can't keep seeds temperate, so the problem is on our end.
Don't be encouraged by Janet's Jacinthe Jewel's numbers and size. The plant has basically died but the remaining fruit is maturing. However, the maturing fruit looks old due to the lack of water delivery.
I added long stakes to Sunchocola, Adriana's Grande and German Orange Strawberry. I used tomato tape where I could to somewhat bind the tree to the stake. Two of the three plants got a second, smaller metal stake.
Berkeley Tie Dye and Black Krim have maturing tomatoes. Purple Bumble Bee has growing tomatoes.
We've now harvested over 1000 tomatoes for the year (1036)! Let's hope there's many more to come. Also, we've harvested over 400 Orange Paruche tomatoes (412) this year.

This is the second day in a row that the harvest numbers have dropped. It appears that Orange Paruche and Sunchocola are slowing down and other cherry tomatoes haven't made up the difference. Is this a trend? We'll see.
I did try Volunteer(4). It looks and tastes like Matt's Wild Cherry...but I'm not entirely convinced yet. I think that just about anything that small would have a tart taste. I'll compare the leaves in the near future.
Adriana's Grande has a bit of sunscald on it.
The "koi pond" tomatoes are showing a lot of dead leaves and yellowing branches on the bottom foot or so of the plant. It's normal, but it's also a sign that these plants are getting old fast...

Harvested Indigo Apple and Earl of Edgecombe!
Today's harvest includes 47 Orange Paruche, 37 Sunchocola, 7 Earliana, 4 SunGold, 2 Stupice, 2 Husky Cherry Red(2), Indigo Apple (new), Earl of Edgecombe (new), Bloody Butcher, Yellow Perfection, Adriana's Grande (13 ounces), Janet's Jacinthe Jewel, Bread and Salt (10 ounces), Snow White, Garden Peach(2), Husky Cherry Red(1) and Garden Peach(3) for a total of 110 tomatoes.
The ripe Indigo Apple was a pleasant surprise. I hadn't noticed the orange blush on the tomato before. The ripe Earl of Edgecombe wasn't a surprise -- I forgot to mention it in yesterday's blog post -- but the first one harvested was a bit of a surprise. The one I spotted is still a day or two away. The one I harvested today isn't very big but it is a beautiful bright orange tomato.
Speaking of yesterday's blog post, I didn't post the weights correctly. Bread and Salt was originally posted as 9 ounces but it was really 12 ounces. Adriana's Grande had no weight posted but it came in at 13.5 ounces. Yesterday's blog post has been updated with these values. I'm sure this is riveting information for the reader!
I got up early again to finish the watering. First I harvested the front yard tomatoes. This took some extra time simply due to the amount harvested. Side note: Yesterday was our high harvest day for the year at 91 tomatoes. Today we harvested 98 tomatoes in the front yard alone. Anyway, then I realized the sprinklers are due to go off in the back yard at 6:22 AM and it's now 6:17. Harvest the back yard as fast as you can! Which I did, of course, but I'm sure to have missed a few.
After the back yard harvest I double watered the "koi pond". Vorlon is ready to be pulled and the "moat" for Berkeley Tie Dye leaks badly on the west side. I noticed a hidden Adriana's Grande during this watering. It should have been picked yesterday. To my defense it was pretty well hidden in the canopy created by the leaves, other fruit and branches.
We've now harvested over 200 Sunchocola tomatoes (208) this year.
The ripe Indigo Apple was a pleasant surprise. I hadn't noticed the orange blush on the tomato before. The ripe Earl of Edgecombe wasn't a surprise -- I forgot to mention it in yesterday's blog post -- but the first one harvested was a bit of a surprise. The one I spotted is still a day or two away. The one I harvested today isn't very big but it is a beautiful bright orange tomato.
Speaking of yesterday's blog post, I didn't post the weights correctly. Bread and Salt was originally posted as 9 ounces but it was really 12 ounces. Adriana's Grande had no weight posted but it came in at 13.5 ounces. Yesterday's blog post has been updated with these values. I'm sure this is riveting information for the reader!

Harvested Snow White!
Today's harvest includes 32 Orange Paruche, 24 Sunchocola, 7 SunGold, 3 Sugar Snack, 3 Earliana, 2 Snow White (new), 2 Bloody Butcher, 2 Husky Cherry Red(1), Yellow Perfection, Janet's Jacinthe Jewel, Bread and Salt (9 ounces), Hungarian Heart, Husky Cherry Red(2), Garden Peach(2) and Green Grape for a total of 82 tomatoes.
I spent a fair amount of time last night taping the larger tomato plants. Adriana's Grande, Sunchocola, Hungarian Heart, German Orange Strawberry, Orange Paruche, Garden Peach(2) and a few others got the tomato taping treatment. I added another stake to Garden Peach(2).
I have some concern that Sunchocola may fall over. The plant is in a large, strong cage. But as I harvest the lower hanging fruit, the plant has become somewhat more imbalanced. The plant will "shift" depending on how I readjust the plant. It's not so much getting tall as the top of the plant is getting wide and flowing everywhere. Think a top heavy ice cream cone. If I stake it it'll need about three stakes outside the cage to trap the cage in place.
Both my wife and I agree that we don't get the Cola taste from our Sunchocola, but we love the tomato. When we tried it at the tomato tasting party last year Loteria Grill, we could taste the Cola undertones. But it's a prolific, pretty and tasty tomato for us.
The German Orange Strawberry plant is amazing. It's now about 7 and a half feet tall and growing like a cyprus tree. Sooner or later I'll have problems with the plant but for now it's perfectly behaved. No maturing fruit yet.
Speaking of which, the two Persimmon plantings (not Persimmon) have maturing tomatoes. And it looks like an Ananas Noire is just starting to mature, but is probably a week away.

Harvested Four New Tomatoes!
There was no harvest Sunday. We were out of town in the morning but came back home in the early evening.
My wife double watered the "corner office" while I watered the container plants near the south gate and about eight more plants in the back yard. I had single watered the ones in the ground. I did a little bit of training during this watering. I noted that Snow White and Volunteer(4) has maturing tomatoes. Great White has growing tomatoes.
Volunteer(4) is not another Garden Peach. The tomatoes are small and red.
I had a Bread and Salt tomato as part of dinner. The tomato did taste quite good though it was a tad overripe. It's hard to single out the flavor, though, short of "good".
Today's harvest includes 27 Orange Paruche, 24 Sunchocola, 14 Matt's Wild Cherry, 11 SunGold, 4 Green Grape (new), 4 Bread and Salt (10.5 ounces, 7 ounces, 9 ounces), 4 Sugar Snack, 3 Bloody Butcher (new), 3 Stupice, 3 Garden Peach(3), 2 Volunteer(4) (new), 2 Husky Cherry Red(1), Earliana, Vorlon, Adriana's Grande (13 ounces), Jaune Flamme, Pierce's Pride (new), Garden Peach(2) and Husky Cherry Red(2) for a total of 108 tomatoes.
We harvested from 4 new plants today! Bloody Butcher and Volunteer(4) was expected. Green Grape was a complete surprise. I had knelt down to look at the two Husky Cherry Red tomatoes when I noticed a green tomato off the vine. After completing the Husky Cherry Red harvesting I went back to the fallen tomato. Turns out it was ripe! I looked at Green Grape and saw other ripe tomatoes. I harvested two more. During the harvesting another ripe one fell to the ground. While Pierce's Pride wasn't unexpected, it's a small "stress" tomato. The plant is turning white and not growing. Any ripe tomato will be stressed and for the most part inedible.
Today's harvest number is obviously bloated due to the lack of a Sunday harvest.
Volunteer(4) looks like Matt's Wild Cherry but I haven't tasted it to verify. For now it remains labeled as Volunteer(4).
The 13 ounce Adrian's Grande is a beauty.

Harvested Two Volunteers!
Saturday's harvest includes 17 Orange Paruche, 13 Sunchocola, 4 SunGold, 3 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 3 Earliana, 3 Bread and Salt (8 ounces, 12.5 ounces), 3 Matt's Wild Cherry, 2 Garden Peach(1) (new), 2 Garden Peach(2), Garden Peach(3) (new), Stupice, Odoriko, Husky Cherry Red(1), Husky Cherry Red(2) and Sugar Snack for a total of 56 tomatoes.
I noticed Volunteer(1) had tomatoes ready to harvest in the morning and obviously picked a couple of them. They looked and felt exactly like Volunteer(2) (which was renamed Garden Peach). I took note that Volunteer(3) had maturing tomatoes that were yellow and could be another Garden Peach tomato plant.
In the evening I told my wife the good news that we have a second and potentially a third Garden Peach plant. She verified that the two harvested tomatoes were Garden Peach tomatoes. I took her out Volunteer(3) and showed her the maturing tomato. She said it was ready so we harvested it. It felt and looked like another Garden Peach!
So I've adjusted the names of these plants on the online spreadsheet. Volunteer(1) becomes Garden Peach(1), Volunteer(2) became Garden Peach and is now Garden Peach(2) and Volunteer(3) becomes Garden Peach(3).
All of these Garden Peach tomatoes appear to be undersized, though healthy and "unstressed". For the most part their size is around nickel to quarter size. Garden Peach tomatoes are usually (at least for us) golf ball sized or larger. My guess is that these plants are doing great with the soil in the raised bed but once the roots hit the dirt below, the roots begin to struggle finding both nutrition and places to expand. In other words, the dirt below the raised bed isn't all that great.
I noted that Bloody Butcher had maturing tomatoes.

Harvested Husky Cherry Red(1)!
Today's harvest includes 23 Orange Paruche, 12 Sunchocola, 5 SunGold, 4 Husky Cherry Red(1) (new), 2 Matt's Wild Cherry, 2 Garden Peach, 2 Husky Cherry Red(2), 2 Sugar Snack, Yellow Perfection, Earliana, Bread and Salt (8.5 ounces), Jaune Flamme and Evan's Purple Pear for a total of 57 tomatoes.
Since I was kneeling near the Husky Cherry Red(2) tomato plant I poked around Husky Cherry Red(1). Not only was I surprised by mature Husky Cherry Red(1) tomatoes, all four could be a bit overripe. They're a beautiful deep crimson red but will be eaten sooner later than later.
My wife gave away most of Tuesday's harvest to a neighbor. She was appreciative.
We've now harvested over 200 Orange Paruche tomatoes (213)!
Today we had harvested more front yard tomatoes (38) than our highest harvest total for the year (36).
Here's a picture of me taken last night next to German Orange Strawberry. The plant is seven feet tall. In June.
Since I was kneeling near the Husky Cherry Red(2) tomato plant I poked around Husky Cherry Red(1). Not only was I surprised by mature Husky Cherry Red(1) tomatoes, all four could be a bit overripe. They're a beautiful deep crimson red but will be eaten sooner later than later.
My wife gave away most of Tuesday's harvest to a neighbor. She was appreciative.

Harvested Odoriko!
Today's harvest includes 11 Sunchocola, 5 Orange Paruche, 4 Yellow Perfection, 4 SunGold, 4 Garden Peach, 3 Odoriko (new), Adriana's Grande (8 ounces), Bread and Salt (8.5 ounces), Jaune Flamme, Husky Cherry Red(2) and Sugar Snack for a total of 36 tomatoes.
The new tomatoes are getting slightly larger as time goes on. First the cherry tomatoes, then the 3 to 4 ounce tomatoes, etc. We're in the 3 to 4 ounce phase. Today was Odoriko but Earliana and the smallish Cherokee Purple fit this profile.
Speaking of Cherokee Purple, my wife tried it and absolutely loved it! She hasn't been much of a fan of it in the past. I haven't been a fan of growing Cherokee Purple as a tomato plant. I've had no luck with it except in 2007. The plants have been undersized (again, sans 2007) and the tomatoes were blah. But I had memories of 2007...I tried it and absolutely loved it as well.
I had a small problem with the Yellow Perfection count. One of the tomatoes was a "Siamese Twin". I counted it as one.

Harvested Four New Tomatoes Today!
Today's harvest includes 16 Orange Paruche, 6 Sunchocola, 3 Earliana, 2 Yellow Perfection, 2 SunGold, 2 Sugar Snack, Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Vorlon (new), Evan's Purple Pear (new), Jaune Flamme (new), Husky Cherry Red(2) (new) and Stupice for a total of 36 tomatoes.
This should be about the tenth Jaune Flamme harvested but the first nine have been eaten by scrub jays. Speaking of which, we haven't seen the scrub jays in about a week or so. My wife has noted that there are large crows patroling our neighborhood now. Note that the scrub jays didn't get our exposed Cherokee Purple tomatoes yesterday.
We finally breached 30 tomatoes today, reaching 36. Don't be surprised if within three weeks it's over 130 tomatoes. We'll see.
The harvested Vorlon is a "stress" harvest (maturing quicker due to stress) and is tiny. The plant itself seems stressed. The other newly harvested tomatoes look just fine.
Here's a before and after image of our roasted tomatoes from a few days ago.

Harvested Earliana and Cherokee Purple!
Monday's harvest includes 14 Orange Paruche, 3 Earliana (new), 3 Sunchocola, 3 Stupice, 2 Yellow Perfection, Adriana's Grande and SunGold for a total of 27 tomatoes.
Monday evening my wife and I tried Earliana. It's a nice looking firm tomato when cut. The taste was good but not great. The taste was definitely improved with salt. However, these are the first tomatoes of the bunch and taste tends to improve as the first harvest wave comes in.

Harvested Adriana's Grande!
Today's harvest includes 9 Orange Paruche, 7 Stupice, 5 Yellow Perfection, 3 Sunchocola, 2 Adriana's Grande (new, 8 ounces), 2 SunGold and Matt's Wild Cherry for a total of 29 tomatoes.
The Adriana's Grande are nice to have but they matured a little early because the branch they were on had bent downward.
We've now harvested over 300 tomatoes this year (304).
My wife roasted a lot of our tomatoes in the oven and they came out great! We also tasted Hungarian Heart and it was fabulous.
I double watered the front yard tomatoes. I gave fertilizer and worm castings to Janet's Jacinthe Jewel before watering. During the watering I did a lot of tomato taping and cutting off some of the dead branches.
Porkchop(1) has a growing tomato. Now everything in the front yard has growing tomatoes.
Vorlon has a maturing tomato, but the plant looks stressed. However, several Bread and Salt are maturing, Earliana is about ready for harvesting and the tomato garden is set to explode. Don't be fooled by the "stressed" tomatoes that have matured, there will be plenty of unstressed tomatoes naturally maturing coming over the next half month or so. And our tomatoes are already really tasty.

Two More Maturing Tomato Varieties
Today's harvest includes 10 Orange Paruche, 9 Sunchocola, 2 Stupice and SunGold for a total of 22 tomatoes.
I did a little bit of tomato taping in the back yard during the harvest.
No bird damage noted, though there were several scrub jays noted in the back yard. My wife added the top of a birdbath on top of a pot, making it functional. It is our hope that this will also help with some of the pecking. On our todo list is to add sand to the pot.
Both Adriana's Grande and Earliana have maturing tomatoes.

Three More Plants With Growing Tomatoes
The back yard tomato plants in containers and raised beds got some tomato fertilizer today. Then I watered all of the back yard tomato plants.
During the watering I noticed that Evan's Purple Pear had a growing tomato.
Last evening my wife noticed that Black From Tula looked like it had gone into shock for some reason. She watered it but it looked no better this morning. I watered it as well and later watered in some fertilizer but I'm afraid we're going to lose this plant. My wife had a good suggestion -- transplant Volunteer(4) (the one growing through the cinder block and destined to be pulled) into the spot where Black From Tula is located. I just want to wait a day or so to see if Black From Tula recovers.
Our best guess is that a fig beetle larvae chomped on it. We see no obvious points of stress above ground that would cause the plant to go into shock.

The "Koi Pond" is Planted!
Let's try to catch up on some of this...
We've fully planted the "koi pond". We still need to put up cages and make dirt moats around the tomatoes, but they have been planted. We're making a concerted effort to get them in the ground as quickly as is reasonably possible.
A week ago last Tuesday (March 25) my wife planted Yellow Perfection, Sunchocola, Adriana's Grande, Janet's Jacinthe Jewel and Orange Paruche in the "koi pond". It's my understanding that last year's delicious Grande tomato is this year's Adriana's Grande. On Friday (after the Descanso Gardens prep work) I dug holes and my wife planted Earl of Edgecombe and German Orange Strawberry. Last Tuesday we planted Earliana, Vorlon and Berkeley Tie Dye. Yesterday we planted Bread and Salt and Hungarian Heart.
So we have 12 tomato plants in the "koi pond". We planted six tomatoes in the back yard today and I think we planted eight yesterday (but several of these plantings replaced existing seedlings).

On Friday (after the Descanso Gardens prep work) I dug holes and my wife planted Earl of Edgecombe and German Orange Strawberry. Last Tuesday we planted Earliana, Vorlon and Berkeley Tie Dye. Yesterday we planted Bread and Salt and Hungarian Heart.
So we have 12 tomato plants in the "koi pond". We planted six tomatoes in the back yard today and I think we planted eight yesterday (but several of these plantings replaced existing seedlings).
We're trucking along...
