Harvested Honkin' Big Black Cherry!

Today's harvest includes 4 Black Cherry, 2 Matt's Wild Cherry, 2 SunGold, 2 SunSugar, Honkin' Big Black Cherry (new), Bloody Butcher and Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe for a total of 13 tomatoes.

Yesterday evening I staked several plants and corraled a few as best I could. German Orange Strawberry had gotten so large that it was tipping eastward. I took out a ladder and pounded an eight foot stake on the east side. This is the third stake used on the plant but the first one this tall and thick. Then I used gardening tape to pin it against the stake.

My wife pulled out Nyagous. This week's heat wave did not create any new growth. That area looks a lot better after the removal of this plant.

Many plants have tomatoes that are getting a darker shade of green in preparation of maturing in the near future. Several that are actually turning include one we harvested today, Honkin' Big Black Cherry. Green Grape is maturing. Lime Green Salad is maturing.

I misidentified Paul Robeson(2) as having maturing tomatoes. That plant turned out to be Pierce's Pride. Paul Robeson(2) is a big plant with some big, beautiful tomatoes -- but none are maturing.

The plants in the "Middle East" are doing spectacularly well. Before this year, I didn't have a plant grow taller than about 4 1/2 feet in this area. This year, every plant but one is taller than 5 feet. They're still growing and it's not even July yet.

My wife noted that the SunGold plant is growing and getting stronger due to the removal of the sweet peas. The sweet peas blocked the sun for this plant.

2011 Tomatoes Image

My wife sent me an image of our uneaten tomatoes. Enjoy!

Indian Stripe Has Maturing Tomatoes

Today's harvest: 4 SunGold, 2 SunSugar, 2 Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, Bloody Butcher, Matt's Wild Cherry, Volunteer(1) and Husky Cherry Red(2) for a total of 12 tomatoes.

Not much to report. I spent most of the evening trying to get a sick car home (took hours, fan/radiator issues), then installing a room air conditioner with the help of my wife as well as some bamboo blinds.

I did notice that Indian Stripe tomatoes are maturing.

3 New Tomatoes Harvested!

Today's harvest: 2 Black Cherry, 2 Bloody Butcher, 2 Jaune Coeur de Pigeon, Volunteer(1) (new), Creme Brulee (new), Jaune Flamme (new), SunGold, Husky Cherry Red(1) and Matt's Wild Cherry for a total of 12 tomatoes.

My wife watered the front yard tomatoes and redid the "moats" around the tomato plants in the "corner office". She also noticed that the Vorlon tomatoes were getting sunscalded (it got up to 99.4 yesterday) and covered some of the tomatoes with newspaper. Thank you for all of your hard work!!

The heat of the past couple of days is making our tomatoes mature a bit faster.

Stupice has several maturing tomatoes. I'm sure others have matured and I just don't know it.

Harvested Nyagous, But It's Bad News

Today's harvest: 2 Husky Cherry Red(2), 2 Black Cherry, Nyagous (new), SunSugar, Bloody Butcher, Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, Husky Cherry Red(1) and SunGold for a total of 10 tomatoes.

Yesterday it got up to 97 degrees at Pierce College. Our plants and tomatoes are going to get bigger!

My wife completed watering the back yard tomato plants. She also added some fertilizer to the three plants in the back yard cutout with no tomatoes as of yet.

I was surprised to see a maturing Nyagous tomato. Unfortunately, this is probably bad news. The plant looked great until it got it's first tomato. Then it stopped growing. It's gray and has a bad leaf curl. The maturation of this tomato is due to plant stress, not due to the fact it's actually ready. The tomato is only the size of a marble. This will probably be the only tomato harvested. We'll see if this heat wave will cause a growth spurt in this plant, but I doubt it.

I was surprised to see 3 maturing Black Krim(2) tomatoes. I believe Paul Robeson(1) has a maturing tomato. There's another plant in the back yard, perhaps Paul Robeson(2) with a maturing tomato.

Harvested Five New Tomatoes Over The Last Two Days!

Sunday's harvest: 3 Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, 2 Bloody Butcher (new), SunSugar (new), Husky Cherry Red(1)(new), SunGold and Matt's Wild Cherry.

A tomato on the Creme Brulee plant is maturing.

My wife's parents came to our house to celebrate Father's Day. I did not sleep well the night before and was slow all day. My wife's mother picked off a mature SunSugar to eat it. I've added it to tomorrow's total.

I added fertilizer to the all the container plants. Later, my wife watered it in.

My wife began watering the tomatoes in advance of a heat wave. She got through most of the back yard.

Monday's harvest: 2 Matt's Wild Cherry, Jaune Coeur de Pigeon (new), Husky Cherry Red(2) (new), SunSugar and Black Cherry, Golden Mama.

Sweet 100 is loving it in the back yard cutout!
