We've now harvested over 1000 front yard tomatoes for August (1007)!

We've also harvested exactly 1300 SunGold tomatoes for this year. Too bad this plant is finally slowing down.

We've also harvested over 300 Husky Cherry Red tomatoes (301). I'm a little surprised by today's “rush” with this tomato.

Harvested Over 300 Front Yard Snow White Tomatoes!

And today's harvest includes 18 Snow White (front yard), 8 SunGold, 5 Yellow Perfection, 3 Brown Berry, 3 Husky Cherry Red, 3 Snow White (back yard), 3 Red Grape, 2 White Currant, 2 SunSugar, 2 Violet Jasper, Michael Pollan, Topaz, Jaune Flamme(1), Plum Tigris, Red Currant(2), Red Boar, Berkeley Tie-Dye Heart, Black From Tula, Azoychka/not Azoychka, Gypsy and Thessaloniki for a total of 60 tomatoes.

Yesterday we harvested over 300 front yard Snow White tomatoes! Currently this is our “hot” plant, producing large, tasty tomatoes. Now the total for this plant is up to 320 harvested tomatoes.

My wife watered part of the back yard yesterday and the front yard tomatoes the day before.

A couple of the tomato plants are burned out and waiting for me to pull them out.

Harvested 6000 Tomatoes This Year!

And today's harvest includes 17 Snow White (front yard), 10 SunGold, 8 Yellow Perfection, 5 Snow White (back yard), 2 Husky Cherry Red, 2 Violet Jasper, 2 Japanese Black Trifele, 2 Principe Borghese, Stupice, Garden Peach, SunSugar, Taxi, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye, Red Currant(1), Pierce's Pride, Zapotec Pleated, Berkeley Tie-Dye Heart, Gajo de Melon, Large Pink Anna (12.5 ounces) and Aunt Ruby's German Green(1) (12 ounces) for a total of 60 tomatoes.

We've now harvested over 6000 tomatoes this year (6053)! I believe we'll reach 7000 harvested tomatoes some time in late September and end up with between 7000 – 8000 for our total harvest number for the year.

My presentation went well last night. The attendees now realize how such a relatively straightforward scheduling program became almost absurdly complex as the enhancement requests rolled in. Fortunately the original design allowed for further flexibility which was put to good use later.

Tonight I'll be speaking at the Los Angeles Visual FoxPro Users Group in Westchester, California. I hope to see you there tonight at 7:30!

We were guests of an Open House party for Ricardo's mom in the evening. My wife made a marinated tomato salad made from our tomatoes picked earlier in the day. Ricardo's cooking skills are second to none. They really know how to throw a party! I'm not going to eat for a week.

Surfas Was Fun But I'm Jealous!

Today's harvest includes 19 Snow White (front yard), 16 SunGold, 9 Yellow Perfection, 4 Snow White (back yard), 4 SunSugar, 3 Michael Pollan, 3 Thessaloniki, 2 Babywine, 2 Violet Jasper, Husky Cherry Red, Stupice, Japanese Black Trifele, Aunt Ruby's German Green(1), Jaune Flamme(1), Green Grape, Red Boar, Marianna's Peace, Zapotec Pleated, Black Zebra, Jaune Flamme(2), Gajo de Melon, Black, Gypsy and Azoychka/not Azoychka for a total of 77 tomatoes.

July 17 was the last time the SunGold tomato wasn't the highest number harvested for the day – a 28 day run.

The tomato test taste trial at Surfas in Culver City was fun! Scott Daigre had asked me to bring as many cherry tomatoes as I could to make sure there were enough for everyone. I brought some great looking Snow White tomatoes as well as SunGold, Gajo de Melon and Brown Berry.

Scott brought enough tomatoes to feed an army. We had way too many tomatoes. He made my tomatoes look sad. He brought huge salad bowls of many types of tomatoes. His cherry tomatoes were the size of golf balls.

There's a number of factors for that – he's growing in Ojai and apparently the high harvest season is right about now for Ojai. That and he's a better grower. With more land. With more time. In Ojai. Damn, I'm jealous!

I had put my good looking Snow White tomatoes in one of the large salad bowls. This was followed by Scott's Snow White tomatoes. Out came around 400 Snow White tomatoes into the bowl, completely overwhelming and burying the tomatoes I brought. Almost all were bigger than the ones I brought. By the end of the cooking presentation a small dent had been made in the Snow White salad bowl, my tomatoes still on the bottom.

All the Brown Berry tomatoes were gone by the end of the day...but I only brought three of them. There were around 20 to start the day.

Scott had asked me to bring some Gajo de Melon tomatoes for him to taste. He thought they were good tasting, with a thick skin. I'd agree with that. The recently harvested Gajo de Melon tomatoes were the second wind for this plant and usually the second wind isn't as strong, big or as tasty as the first wind (harvest).

In the evening my wife and I enjoyed a Harry Connick Jr. concert at the Hollywood Bowl. He's entertaining and talented and we had an excellent time.

Thanks Liz and Ricardo!
