There was no harvest on Saturday.
However, the gardeners came and pulled out plenty of tomato plants. The carnage included Sweet 100, Copper River, Big Bite, Carmello, Thessaloniki, Giant Syrian, German Orange Strawberry, Snow White(1), Black and Brown Boar(2), Purple Dog Creek, Delicious, Neves Azorean Red, Italian Heirloom, Amazon Chocolate, Amana Orange, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Watermelon and Pineapple(2) -- 18 plants in all. I might have kept one or two of those, but a vast majority were ready to go. We're left with 6 plants left but one of them was missed by the gardeners. We have 5 good ones remaining.
Both Husky Cherry Red tomato plants are still going even though they were planted in February. They're tough, rugged plants that take a licking and keep on ticking...
Yesterday got up to 101.9. The heat just will not let up for any appreciable period of time...
Today's harvest includes 4 Husky Cherry Red(2), SunGold and Husky Cherry Red(1) for a total of 6 tomatoes.

Pulled Three More Front Yard Tomato Plants
Monday's harvest includes 2 SunGold, 2 Speckled Roman(3), 2 Husky Cherry Red(1), Sweet 100, Husky Cherry Red(2), Purple Dog Creek, Delicious and Neves Azorean Red for a total of 11 tomatoes
Today's harvest includes 2 Carmello, SunGold, Copper River, Snow White(1), Black and Brown Boar(2), Husky Cherry Red(1), Purple Dog Creek (7 ounces) and Delicious for a total of 9 tomatoes.
I forgot to mention the heat over the weekend. Friday: 105.6 degrees. Saturday: 103.9 degrees. Sunday wasn't so bad, 94.6 degrees. But any new tomato blooms are going to go sterile in such heat as the heat pounds the plant into submission.
Yesterday my wife pulled out Redfield Beauty, Porkchop(1) and Pierce's Pride(1). Only SunGold remains in the front yard.
No milestones hit, but we did pass 10,800 total harvested tomatoes for this year (10818).

Back Yard Harvest Twice Front Yard Harvest For 2012
Saturday's harvest includes 4 Delicious, 2 SunGold, 2 Amana Orange, 2 Big Bite, 2 Carmello, Copper River, Husky Cherry Red(1), Husky Cherry Red(2), Thessaloniki, Speckled Roman(3), Black and Brown Boar(2), Purple Dog Creek (6 ounces) and Neves Azorean Red for a total of 20 tomatoes.
Saturday my wife and I plus about 30 of our friends and family celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at Castaways Restaurant in Burbank. It was a ton of fun for everyone involved.
I love you, sweetie!!
Today's harvest includes 5 Speckled Roman(3), 4 Delicious, 2 Neves Azorean Red, 2 SunGold, 2 Black and Brown Boar(2), Pierce's Pride(1), Oaxacan Pink, Husky Cherry Red(1), Thessaloniki, Snow White(1) and Amana Orange for a total of 21 tomatoes.
Several more tomato plants are ready to be pulled. We may be up to 10 more ready to come out.
The back yard harvest total is over twice the front yard harvest total (7201 vs 3597) for this year.

Harvested Over 500 Backyard Tomatoes This Month!
Today's harvest includes 4 Speckled Roman(3), 3 Delicious, 3 Husky Cherry Red(1), 2 Snow White(1), 2 Porkchop(1), 2 SunGold, Big Bite, Yellow Perfection, Carmello, Black and Brown Boar(2), Neves Azorean Red, Italian Heirloom and Snow White(2) for a total of 23 tomatoes.
Yikes! Yesterday got up to 105.3. That is...hot. This heat is wearing us out along with the tomato plants.
With our aggressive plant pulling we probably won't make my prediction of 900 tomatoes this month. Also, I didn't expect it to stay so hot for so long.
We've now harvested over 500 back yard tomatoes this month (517)!

Harvested Copper River!
Today's harvest includes 5 Snow White(1), 4 SunGold, 4 Delicious, 2 Copper River (new), 2 Amana Orange, 2 Aunt Ruby's German Green, 2 Snow White(2), 2 Black and Brown Boar(2), 2 Husky Cherry Red(1), Redfield Beauty, Speckled Roman(3) and Neves Azorean Red for a total of 28 tomatoes.
Well, it's good to see Copper River being harvested! The tomatoes are small but look pretty good. And today's two tomatoes for Copper River means it has rocketed past Italian Tree and tied with Chile Verde on the 2012 harvest totals. We've only harvested a single Italian Tree tomato. We got a second Italian Tree tomato, but it had too much blossom end rot to be usable when mature. Next up: Green Zebra with 3 harvested tomatoes.
I don't think I've harvested a first tomato with a longer maturity. It took 130 days to harvest the first Copper River tomato. It was planted on May 5 of this year.

Pulled Five Front Yard Tomato Plants
Today's harvest includes 4 Snow White(1), 3 Snow White(2), 2 Black and Brown Boar(2), 2 Delicious, 2 SunGold, Porkchop(1), Ella's Pink Plum, Yellow Perfection, Husky Cherry Red(1), Husky Cherry Red(2), Carmello, Speckled Roman(3), Italian Heirloom (6 ounces), Amana Orange, Aunt Ruby's German Green and Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red for a total of 24 tomatoes.
My wife pulled out Jaune Flamme(1), Black Krim(1), Indigo Apple(1), Oaxacan Jewel and Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg, all from the front yard. Indigo Apple(1) was a bit of a surprise, but it was clearly near the end anyway. Also, she watered the front yard, including the remaining front yard tomatoes.
We've now harvested over 50 Delicious tomatoes (51).
And we've passed the 10,700 mark for the year (10706).
On a somber note, on this date last year our Manchester Terrier was put to sleep. Buster's body failed him but he never failed us.

Harvested Over 7000 Back Yard Tomatoes!
Today's harvest includes 5 Big Bite, 3 Snow White(1), 2 Husky Cherry Red(1), 2 Delicious, 2 Speckled Roman(3), 2 Black and Brown Boar(2), SunGold, Ella's Pink Plum, Carmello, Purple Dog Creek, Neves Azorean Red, Aunt Ruby's German Green and Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red for a total of 23 tomatoes.
Ugh, it's hot again. Yesterday: 100.7 degrees.
We've now harvested over 7000 back yard tomatoes (7075)! Actually we passed the 7000 mark a couple of days ago. I noticed it yesterday and letting the world know about it now.
My wife watered the tomatoes in the containers.

Fourteen Plants Pulled...
Today's harvest includes 10 Snow White(1), 3 Amana Orange, 3 Indigo Rose, 2 Snow White(2), 2 Carmello, 2 Delicious (6 ounces), Husky Cherry Red(1), Thessaloniki, Nebraska Wedding, Japanese Black Trifele, Pierce's Pride(1), Porkchop(1), SunGold, Ella's Pink Plum, Big Bite (6 ounces), Brad's Black Heart, Italian Heirloom, Marianna's Peace (6 ounces) and Marmara for a total of 35 tomatoes.
The gardeners did come and pull tomatoes. A lot of them, all in the back yard. The list includes Black Cherry(1), Brad's Black Heart, Black From Tula, Japanese Black Trifele, Black Cherry(2), Marianna's Peace, Noire Charbonneuse(2), Indigo Apple(2), Earl of Edgecombe, Gypsy, Marmara, Red Boar(1), Indigo Rose and Red Boar(2)...14 plants in all. And the ones I listed yesterday need to be removed as well.
Having noted that, I wasn't expecting either Black Cherry to be pulled. But it's done. The raised bed is now cleared out with the removal of Indigo Rose and Red Boar(2). The ground will be prepared for winter crops.
Some of the pulled plants had salvageable tomatoes, which were added to today's totals.
Will we break our all time record? Perhaps, but the removal of the two Black Cherry plants puts it in some doubt.
On a bookkeeping note, Garden Peach was pulled a while ago. I guessed the date as August 22.

Harvested 100 Carmello Tomatoes This Year!
Today's harvest includes 15 SunGold, 10 Carmello, 9 Snow White(2), 7 Black Cherry(1), 6 Red Currant, 3 Oaxacan Pink, 3 Indigo Rose, 3 Big Bite, 3 Yellow Perfection, 3 Husky Cherry Red(1), 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow, 2 Oaxacan Jewel (7 ounces), 2 Redfield Beauty, 2 Red Boar(1), 2 Thessaloniki, Indigo Apple(1), Pineapple(1) (8.5 ounces), Nyagous(1), Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg, Brad's Black Heart (6.5 ounces), Pink Furry Boar, Snow White(1), Black and Brown Boar(2), Purple Dog Creek, Delicious, Black Cherry(2), Amana Orange, Noire Charbonneuse(2) and Tolstoi for a total of 86 tomatoes.
My wife pulled Pineapple Pig, Yellow Furry Boar, Red Boar(2) and Porkchop(2). My wife spotted the tomato on Yellow Furry Boar but declared it as not worth saving and pulled the plant.
If you'll notice, all four tomatoes were developed at Wild Boar Farms. Wild Boar Farms has some tremendous varieties and we will always grow tomatoes developed there, but the plants simply do not last in the heat of the San Fernando Valley.
Carmello is going through a second wind, as well as Red Currant to a lesser degree.
Also, my wife watered all of the back yard tomatoes.
We've now harvested over 700 Black Cherry(1) tomatoes (706) and 100 Carmello tomatoes this year.

Harvested Over 9500 Tomatoes This Year!
Today's harvest includes 16 Black Cherry(1), 15 SunGold, 7 Husky Cherry Red(1), 5 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 5 Snow White(2), 4 Red Currant, 4 Snow White(1), 3 Redfield Beauty, 3 Pineapple Pig, 3 Indigo Apple(2), 3 Yellow Perfection, 2 Indigo Apple(1), 2 Oaxacan Pink (6 ounces), 2 SunSugar, 2 Indigo Rose, 2 Ella's Pink Plum, Nyagous(1), Husky Cherry Red(2), Dr. Wyche's Yellow, Big Bite, Pink Furry Boar, Carmello, Nebraska Wedding (8.5 ounces), German Orange Strawberry (7 ounces), Delicious, Amazon Chocolate, Black Cherry(2), Taxi, Gypsy, Red Boar(2) and Jaune Flamme(2) for a total of 93 tomatoes.
I forgot to mention that we tried one of our large Pineapple(2) tomatoes for dinner on Saturday. Our verdict: mixed. The flavor wasn't there. It wasn't a bad flavor, just little to no flavor. The tomato itself was quite good -- firm where you wanted it to be, and soft where you wanted it to be. Just very little flavor.
Yesterday's high: 100.2. We didn't do much all day and the tomatoes were left to bake some more...
This morning I noticed a lot of new growth on SunGold. I'm expecting the weather to break in the near future, allowing the new blooms to germinate. Then SunGold will get a second wave a few weeks later. It's already a safe bet that we'll break our all time high of 2727 Matt's Wild Cherry tomatoes harvested in a year. It's a little early to predict over 3000 but based on the new growth during this blistering heat, but that's what I predict.
We've now harvested over 9500 tomatoes for the year (9517) and over 2500 tomatoes for the month of August (2585). It looks like we'll reach 10,000 tomatoes this month.
Also, we've harvested 300 Snow White(1) tomatoes, over 100 Redfield Beauty tomatoes (102), over 50 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red tomatoes (54) and over 50 Dr. Wyche's Yellow tomatoes (51) this year.

Harvested Over 100 Nyagous(1) Tomatoes!
Today's harvest includes 38 Black Cherry(1), 22 SunGold, 13 Snow White(2), 8 Husky Cherry Red(2), 8 Snow White(1), 6 Nyagous(1), 5 Indigo Apple(1), 5 Husky Cherry Red(1), 5 Indigo Apple(2), 3 Sweet 100, 2 Black and Brown Boar(2), 2 Tolstoi, 2 Black Cherry(2), 2 Yellow Perfection, 2 SunSugar, Ella's Pink Plum, Red Currant, Redfield Beauty, Chinese Tea, Vorlon, Speckled Roman(2), Delicious (7.5 ounces), Amazon Chocolate, Indigo Rose and Porkchop(2) for a total of 133 tomatoes.
Yesterday's high: 105.1. But the heat wasn't as oppressive and the air was noticeably clearer in the evening. Is the heat wave gripping the area finally going to break?
My wife pulled Berkeley Tie Dye, White Zebra and Noire Charbonneuse(1) from the front yard. Also, Matt's Wild Cherry was severely cut back a few days ago. There's several in the back yard that can be pulled -- beefsteaks, mostly -- but I haven't told my wife yet.
My wife also watered the front yard tomatoes and some of the back yard tomatoes.
Last night my wife cut up Porkchop and Vorlon for dinner. They were both delicious! Winner and winner.
We've now harvested over 2000 tomatoes this month (2010). My prediction for the whole month was 2400 tomatoes and we've reached 2000 before the halfway point. Obviously we'll blow by my prediction but our harvest is currently dominated by cherry tomatoes. As the weather cools, so will the harvest numbers. It doesn't look like it now but we could be down to about 30 per day by the end of the month.
We've now harvested over 2450 SunGold tomatoes (2461) and over 100 Nyagous(1) tomatoes (103) this year.

Harvested Over 700 Husky Cherry Red(2) Tomatoes!
Today's harvest includes 37 Black Cherry(1), 24 SunGold, 18 Husky Cherry Red(2), 12 Snow White(2), 8 Husky Cherry Red(1), 6 Snow White(1), 6 Sweet Million, 5 Nyagous(1), 5 SunSugar, 4 Black and Brown Boar(2), 3 Black Cherry(2), 3 Speckled Roman(3), 2 Jaune Flamme(2), 2 Sweet 100, 2 Indigo Apple(2), 2 Red Currant, 2 Neves Azorean Red (8.5 ounces), 2 Amazon Chocolate, Redfield Beauty, Dr. Wyche's Yellow, Oaxacan Jewel (11 ounces), Crimson Cushion, Pineapple Pig, Yellow Furry Boar, Delicious, Omar's Lebanese (11 ounces), Ramapo, Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red and Porkchop(2) for a total of 154 tomatoes.
Yesterday's high: 105.8. It was particularly warm at night, making it difficult to sleep.
My wife made sauce out of some of the tomatoes but other than that, not much happened. It's been so hot that other house items have backed up.
We've now harvested over 500 front yard tomatoes this month. Also, we've harvested over 700 Husky Cherry Red(2) tomatoes (715) and over 200 Snow White(2) tomatoes (205) this year.

Harvested Over 200 SunSugar Tomatoes!
Today's harvest includes 25 SunGold, 20 Snow White(2), 14 Sweet 100, 8 Snow White(1), 8 Husky Cherry Red(1), 7 Black Cherry(2), 5 SunSugar, 5 Husky Cherry Red(2), 5 Black Cherry(1), 4 Sweet Baby Girl, 4 Nyagous(1), 3 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 2 Speckled Roman(3), 2 Redfield Beauty, 2 Gypsy, 2 Ramapo, 2 Noire Charbonneuse(2), 2 Delicious, 2 Porkchop(1) (7 ounces, 7 ounces), Speckled Roman(1), Chinese Tea, Speckled Roman(2), Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg, Red Currant, Oaxacan Pink, Creme Brulee, Garden Peach, Italian Heirloom (11 ounces), Indigo Apple(2) and Omar's Lebanese (11.5 ounces) for a total of 133 tomatoes.
And yesterday got up to 106.3 degrees. The blistering heat wave continues. This heat appears to be pushing Snow White tomatoes to maturity as well as keeping the SunGold numbers higher than I would expect.
My wife has been battling a cold and a possible sinus infection. A couple tomato recipients came by our house to pick up tomatoes as opposed to my wife driving to their residences to drop off tomatoes.
My wife pulled out Nyagous(2). Now Creme Brulee can also be pulled.
We've now harvested over 200 SunSugar tomatoes (202) and over 100 Sweet 100 tomatoes (107) this year.

Harvested Over 150 Garden Peach Tomatoes!
Today's harvest includes 28 SunGold, 12 Snow White(2), 7 Sweet 100, 6 Garden Peach, 6 Black Cherry(1), 5 Black Cherry(2), 4 Sweet Baby Girl, 4 SunSugar, 4 Redfield Beauty, 4 Snow White(1), 4 Husky Cherry Red(1), 3 Husky Cherry Red(2), 3 Big Zebra (9.5 ounces), 3 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 2 Gypsy, 2 Delicious (7.5 ounces), 2 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 2 Big Bite (6 ounces, 8 ounces), 2 Porkchop(2), 2 Yellow Furry Boar, 2 Indigo Apple(1), 2 Brad's Black Heart (7 ounces, 7 ounces), 2 Red Currant, 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow (7 ounces, 7 ounces), Nyagous(1), Jaune Flamme(1), Black and Brown Boar(1), Ella's Pink Plum, Pineapple(1), Pineapple Pig (13 ounces), Green Grape, Black From Tula (6 ounces), Nebraska Wedding (7 ounces), Japanese Black Trifele, Purple Dog Creek (7 ounces), Italian Heirloom, Amazon Chocolate (6 ounces), Marianna's Peace (10.5 ounces), Indigo Apple(2) and Earl of Edgecombe(8.5 ounces) for a total of 129 tomatoes.
I placed fertilizer in the container plants and my wife dutifully watered it in later in the day.
My wife made a tomato salad, using tomatoes from nearly every color in the rainbow. The salad colors were enticing by itself. We visited the "seed lady" in the afternoon and enjoyed dinner with her company. The salad was a hit.
We harvested over 150 Garden Peach tomatoes this year (154)! However, most of the recent Garden Peach tomatoes are close to inedible. They're small and desiccated. This plant may get pulled sooner rather than later.

Today's harvest includes 32 SunGold, 12 Husky Cherry Red(2), 11 Snow White(2), 10 Black Cherry(1), 8 Snow White(1), 7 Redfield Beauty, 7 Husky Cherry Red(1), 4 Creme Brulee, 4 SunSugar, 3 Pink Furry Boar, 3 German Orange Strawberry (8 ounces, 9 ounces, 6.5 ounces), 3 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 3 Garden Peach, 3 Speckled Roman(3), 2 Nyagous(1), 2 White Zebra, 2 Red Boar(1), 2 Black Cherry(2), 2 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 2 Pineapple Pig (7 ounces), 2 Indigo Apple(1), 2 Aunt Ruby's German Green (6 ounces, 11.5 ounces), 2 Noire Charbonneuse(2), 2 Sweet Baby Girl, 2 Gypsy, 2 Sweet Million, 2 Ella's Pink Plum, 2 Jaune Flamme(2), 2 Indigo Rose, Kellogg's Breakfast, Chinese Tea, Pierce's Pride(1), Noire Charbonneuse(1), Dr. Wyche's Yellow (7 ounces), Sweet 100, Red Currant, Brad's Black Heart (14 ounces), Black Krim(2), Black From Tula, Nebraska Wedding (8 ounces), Yellow Furry Boar, Black and Brown Boar(2), Delicious (8 ounces), Amazon Chocolate, Amana Orange (12 ounces), Indigo Apple(2), Earl of Edgecombe, Marmara, Ramapo, Red Boar(2) and Green Grape for a total of 162 tomatoes.
This is being written just after the tomato tasting party at Loteria Grill but I'll save that for tomorrow's post.
Yesterday my wife completed watering the back yard. She also made fig jam. However, she said she used the wrong pectin so it's more of a fig sauce/syrup than a jam.
In the evening we tried Aunt Ruby's German Green and it was delicious!
We've now harvested over 7500 tomatoes this year (7576) and we're still going strong. This could be a tremendous year. Also we've harvested over 650 Husky Cherry Red(2) tomatoes (657) for the year.

Harvested Over 7000 Tomatoes This Year!
Today's harvest includes 33 SunGold, 20 Black Cherry(1), 13 Husky Cherry Red(2), 10 Sweet Baby Girl, 9 Husky Cherry Red(1), 6 Snow White(2), 5 Snow White(1), 5 Garden Peach, 5 Noire Charbonneuse(2), 4 Porkchop(1), 4 Indigo Rose, 4 SunSugar, 4 Pink Furry Boar, 4 Black Cherry(2), 4 Black and Brown Boar(2), 3 Black Krim(2) (6 ounces), 3 Gypsy, 3 Ella's Pink Plum, 2 Red Currant, 2 Carmello, 2 Big Zebra (6 ounces, 7 ounces), 2 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 2 Ramapo, 2 Speckled Roman(3), 2 Yellow Furry Boar, 2 Indigo Apple(2), 2 Black and Brown Boar(1), 2 Jaune Flamme(2), 2 Purple Dog Creek (10 ounces, 11 ounces), 2 Berkeley Tie Dye (6 ounces), 2 Redfield Beauty, 2 Jaune Flamme(1), Nyagous(1), Pierce's Pride(1), Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg, Sweet Million, Marianna's Peace (12 ounces), Big Bite, Yellow Perfection, Marmara (6.5 ounces), Creme Brulee, Delicious (6 ounces), Amazon Chocolate, Earl of Edgecombe, Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red and Green Grape for a total of 181 tomatoes.
On Monday my wife watered the front yard tomatoes. Yesterday she got to some of the back yard tomatoes and pulled out Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2).
In the evening we tried a taste test between Brad's Black Heart and German Orange Strawberry. Going in we thought German Orange Strawberry would win because Brad's Black Heart was a little soft. Turns out the opposite occurred -- Brad's Black Heart was the clear winner. Brad's Black Heart was delicious, with a deep, complex, juicy and a bit winey tasting tomato. German Orange Strawberry wasn't quite ripe enough. And it "suffered" from a problem that sometimes occurs with larger heirlooms -- the maturity level varied within the tomato. Parts of the tomato were ready to eat and parts of it weren't quite there. We're big fans of German Orange Strawberry. It's just that parts of this particular tomato wasn't quite ready.
Here's a picture of the two tomatoes, with some crackers and round mozzarella cheese slices. The glare on the German Orange Strawberry slices makes it look a bit like egg yolks, but it's all tomato slices.
We've now harvested over 2100 SunGold tomatoes (2114) and over 7000 tomatoes (7133) this year!

We've now harvested over 6000 tomatoes for the month of July (6088)! This is a sign of a tremendous month. If time permits, I'll do a comparison with prior years (I didn't have time at the end of June to go across years). But I can state -- our tomatoes have been quite tasty (truly the only thing that matters), large and plentiful. Everything else is just noise.
Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) and Brown Berry need to be pulled.

The harvested Big Zebra is a beauty! My wife was crowing about how beautiful it looked.
I took a look at Neves Azorean Red this morning. The plant isn't too tall but it has a few unripe tomatoes. I haven't paid any attention to it because nothing's maturing on the vines. However, a week ago I thought the same thing about Earl of Edgecombe until I took a look at it and found several slightly overripe tomatoes.
My wife watered parts of the back yard yesterday.
We've now harvested over 1800 SunGold tomatoes for the year (1843). And we've now harvested over 3500 tomatoes in the back yard (3569) and over 5000 tomatoes for July (5091).

Today's harvest includes 72 SunGold, 23 Husky Cherry Red(1), 19 Husky Cherry Red(2), 12 Black Cherry(1), 9 Garden Peach, 7 Snow White(1), 5 Yellow Perfection, 4 Carmello (6 ounces), 4 Jaune Flamme(2), 4 SunSugar, 4 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 4 Black From Tula (9 ounces, 8 ounces, 9.5 ounces), 3 Speckled Roman(3) (7 ounces), 3 Yellow Furry Boar (6.5 ounces), 3 Pink Furry Boar (6 ounces), 3 Matt's Wild Cherry, 3 Brown Berry, 2 Black and Brown Boar(2), 2 Delicious (6 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Red Currant, 2 Yellow Currant, 2 Black and Brown Boar(1), 2 Indigo Rose, 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow (7 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 2 Crimson Cushion (8 ounces), 2 Green Grape, 2 Snow White(2), 2 Brad's Black Heart (12 ounces), 2 Japanese Black Trifele (8 ounces), 2 Creme Brulee (7 ounces), 2 Jaune Flamme(1), 2 Watermelon (8.5 ounces, 10.5 ounces), Noire Charbonneuse(1), Noire Charbonneuse(2), Berkeley Tie Dye, Vorlon (10 ounces), Speckled Roman(2) (6 ounces), Pineapple Pig (17 ounces), Oaxacan Jewel (12.5 ounces), Gypsy, Marmara (6 ounces), Black Krim(1) (9.5 ounces), Black Krim(2), Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) (7.5 ounces), Persimmon (14 ounces), Italian Heirloom (9 ounces), Taxi and Marianna's Peace (9 ounces) for a total of 228 tomatoes.
My wife will appreciate fewer harvested tomatoes today. Yesterday she completed the watering of the back yard tomatoes but otherwise spent the whole day processing and giving away tomatoes. It was an all day job and understandably she was a bit overwhelmed by the end of the day.
This morning we taste tested Yellow Furry Boar and Creme Brulee. Yellow Furry Boar was a nice, smooth tasting milky yellow tomato. But our collective socks were knocked off by Creme Brulee. The taste really can't be condensed down into a simple description. I find it to be a great combination between both a red tomato (tomato taste) with a brown tomato (smooth, smoky undertones). Both flavors are there but neither dominates. Both tomatoes worked but Creme Brulee was just outstanding.
A Red Boar(2) is maturing.
We've now harvested over 1400 SunGold tomatoes for the year (1446). Also, we've now harvested over 2000 back yard tomatoes in July (2065), over 3500 overall for the month (3674) and over 4500 for the year (4538).

Harvested Ramapo and Kellogg's Breakfast!
Today's harvest includes 80 SunGold, 29 Husky Cherry Red(1), 23 Husky Cherry Red(2), 13 Jaune Flamme(1), 9 Black Cherry(1), 9 SunSugar, 7 Indigo Rose, 7 Garden Peach, 6 Black and Brown Boar(1), 6 Pink Furry Boar (9.5 ounces, 6 ounces), 5 Yellow Perfection, 5 Snow White(1), 5 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(1) (8.5 ounces, 6.5 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 5 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) (6 ounces, 6.5 ounces, 8 ounces, 6.5 ounces), 5 Dr. Wyche's Yellow (19 ounces, 12 ounces, 9.5 ounces), 4 Green Grape, 4 Yellow Currant, 4 Red Currant, 4 Redfield Beauty, 3 Black Krim(2) (10.5 ounces, 8 ounces, 10.5 ounces), 3 Carmello (6 ounces), 3 Indigo Apple(1), 3 Marmara, 3 Noire Charbonneuse(2), 3 Matt's Wild Cherry, 3 Black and Brown Boar(2), 2 Black Cherry(2), 2 Speckled Roman(2) (7 ounces, 12 ounces), 2 Oaxacan Pink (14 ounces), 2 Japanese Black Trifele, 2 Crimson Cushion (6.5 ounces), 2 Persimmon (12 ounces, 24.5 ounces), 2 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 2 Big Bite (10.5 ounces, 9.5 ounces), 2 Chinese Tea, 2 Purple Dog Creek (9.5 ounces, 13 ounces), 2 Delicious (7 ounces), 2 Thessaloniki (6 ounces), Kellogg's Breakfast (new) (7 ounces), Ramapo (new) (6 ounces), White Zebra, Pierce's Pride(1) (9 ounces), Porkchop(1) (6 ounces), Creme Brulee (8 ounces), Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg (9.5 ounces), Porkchop(2), Noire Charbonneuse(1), Sweet 100, Black From Tula, Sweet Million, Pierce's Pride(2), Brown Berry, Amazon Chocolate (13.5 ounces), Brad's Black Heart (11.5 ounces), Speckled Roman(3), Amana Orange, Indigo Apple(2) and Gypsy for a total of 295 tomatoes.
Wow, another great harvest! It took a couple of hours to get them all. Highlights include Persimmon, Amazon Chocolate, Dr. Wyche's Yellow and Noire Charbonneuse(2) with beautiful tomatoes.
My wife watered portions of the back yard. One of the plants watered was Black Cherry(1), which promptly fell into Brad's Black Heart again. I resupported it again this morning. Also, I added fertilizer to the back yard containers. Speaking of back yard containers, I asked my wife to pull Yellow Currant.
Kellogg's Breakfast was not a surprise, I forgot to mention it in the maturing tomatoes list. Now add Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red to that list.
Last night my wife and I taste tested Noire Charbonneuse(2) and Chile Verde. Noire Charbonneuse was my favorite tomato in 2007 and I hadn't seen it again until this year. Now my wife knows why I like it so much. The taste was "cleaner" than I remember but you could still taste the buttery undertones and the good flavor. Chile Verde was excellent as well. A green tomato that was "cool" and mellow was quite surprising to me, better tasting than when we grew it before. My wife definitely preferred Noire Charbonneuse(2), as did I, but were quite pleasantly surprised by Chile Verde.
The 12 ounce Speckled Roman(2) is an anomaly. It's a "fat" tomato not unlike Brad's Black Heart. And as you know, Speckled Roman is a long tomato like a classic Roma tomato. I've asked my wife to save the seeds from that tomato. Maybe we'll get an image of it at some point...
We've now harvested over 1300 SunGold tomatoes this year (1374) and over 500 Husky Cherry Red(1) tomatoes (518). Also, we've now harvested over 1500 tomatoes in the front yard for July (1525) and over 2500 tomatoes in the back yard for this year (2517).
