Matt's Wild Cherry Has A Maturing Tomato!

Friday's harvest includes 6 Orange Paruche, 2 Yellow Perfection and Sugar Snack for a total of 9 tomatoes.

We had a friend come over to watch the LA Kings game (They're the Stanley Cup Champions!!!). We tried several tomatoes. All were quite good but all of us were noticing how good Orange Paruche tasted. I think we'll plant this every year if we see it around...

Today's harvest includes 12 Orange Paruche, 2 Stupice, Yellow Perfection, Sunchocola and SunGold for a total of 17 tomatoes.

While training the back yard tomato plants at night, I noticed that a Matt's Wild Cherry tomato is maturing. Also, Paul Robeson and Brad's Black Heart have growing tomatoes.

Harvested SunGold, Bread and Salt and Sugar Snack!

Today's harvest includes 8 Orange Paruche, 2 SunGold (new), 2 Sunchocola, Bread and Salt (new) and Sugar Snack (new) for a total of 14 tomatoes.

The scrub jay got another maturing Jaune Flamme...

Aunt Ruby's German Green and Japanese Black Trifele have growing tomatoes.

My wife and I put more netting around Jaune Flamme, Sugar Snack and Bread and Salt.

The harvested Bread and Salt is a distressed tomato. I've noted that some tomatoes with issues -- in this case an exposed area the size of a dime -- mature earlier than others. It wouldn't surprise me if we don't use this tomato. It also wouldn't surprise me that the next ripe Bread and Salt tomato will be a couple of weeks away.

The Scrub Jay Is Destroying Our Maturing Tomatoes In The Back Yard

Today's harvest includes 5 Orange Paruche, 2 Yellow Perfection (new) and Stupice for a total of 8 tomatoes.

Very late last night I remembered that Jaune Flamme had maturing tomatoes and I hadn't checked on them in the morning. I went out and looked...it looked like one of the maturing tomatoes was simply gone and the other one was 80 percent eaten away.

This morning I checked on Sugar Snack. 2 of them were mature and both of them were torn apart by birds.

All the bird damage is coming from the back yard.

Today's Stupice was a maturing tomato from the broken branch from a few days ago. The other tomatoes on the branch will not mature and will be thrown away.

My wife bought some more bird netting and other items designed to placate or scare away this evil scrub jay. However, we didn't have time to install any of it today.

Here's a picture of some of our harvested tomatoes over the past few days.

Bread And Salt, Sugar Snack Have Maturing Tomatoes!

Today's harvest includes 14 Orange Paruche and 3 Sunchocola for a total of 17 tomatoes.

I was a bit aggressive with the Orange Paruche harvest, making sure that the birds didn't first pick them off.

I took a look at SunGold and I could tell which tomato was lost to the scrub jay.

Solar Flare has a growing tomato. And Bread and Salt has a maturing tomato.

My wife watered the rest of the back yard tomatoes and noted that Sugar Snack has maturing tomatoes.

I forgot to mention that I cut away the yellowing branches on Pineapple Pig yesterday. Today I hand pulled out some of the dead and yellowing branches and leaves on Adriana's Grande.

Here's a picture of me next to Sunchocola.

There's a bit of an optical illusion with the potato bush against the house (they kind of merge together), but Sunchocola is as tall as me (and I'm a shade under six feet tall). Some of the top branches are taller than me. There are tomatoes all over this plant. IT'S ONLY JUNE 10!!!!!!!

Harvested Orange Paruche and Garden Peach!

Today's harvest includes 2 Garden Peach (new), 2 Sunchocola and Orange Paruche (new) for a total of 5 tomatoes.

This morning I did some training in the front yard. I noticed that Yellow Perfection had maturing tomatoes.

My wife double watered the tomato plants in the back yard, not including the container plants and the ones in raised beds. We also repaired a couple of "moats". During this period I noticed that Jaune Flamme had maturing tomatoes and that Volunteer(4) had growing tomatoes.

I showed my wife what was happening to Stupice. There was one maturing tomato...and a bird got that one as well! So we got rid of that tomato. My wife found some bird netting that we wrapped around the Stupice cage.

The biggest discovery was looking at Volunteer(2). I got down to ground level, looked up into the plant and saw maturing tomatoes! I brought my wife over and when she saw them, she harvested them. They were ready. And the feel of the tomato was unmistakable -- this was Garden Peach! This was great news! We didn't plant Garden Peach this year so this is not a duplicate of another tomato plant. And we like Garden Peach but haven't had good luck with the plant the last couple of years.

In the afternoon my wife spotted a scrub jay tearing open the maturing SunGold! We need to install something to scare away these birds....Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

My wife and I tried Orange Paruche, Stupice, Garden Peach and Sunchocola during our dinner. Orange Paruche and Stupice were delicious. Garden Peach was good but a bit mushy and Sunchocola was quite good.

I've adjusted the on line spreadsheet to reflect Garden Peach and also took care of an issue with the front yard totaling feature for June.

It looks like we're going to have a monster year with Sunchocola.

SunGold and Orange Paruche Have Maturing Tomatoes!

Thursday's harvest: None. A ripe Stupice got pecked by a bird so I had to throw it away.

Friday's harvest: None. The next ripe Stupice got hit by a bird again. This tomato was pretty torn apart. When I went to pull it off, a whole branch of unripe Stupice came off with it. Grrrrrrrrrrr......

The Pineapple Pig tomato plant has a lot of leaves turning yellow and doesn't appear to be growing at the same pace as others.

Saturday's harvest: Sunchocola.

I noticed that Speckled Roman(1) and Golden Rave have growing tomatoes. Also, I should mention that Persimmon(2) (not Persimmon) had growing tomatoes some time ago but I had forgotten to mention it.

Today's harvest: Sunchocola.

I did a fair amount tomato training late in the evening.

SunGold and Orange Paruche have maturing tomatoes! In fact, I pulled off an Orange Paruche that looked ripe. I'll add that to tomorrow's totals.

Plants with growing tomatoes include Blue Beauty, Berkeley Tie Dye (now all the tomato plants in the "koi pond" have growing tomatoes), Indian Stripe (but the plant looks lousy) and Speckled Roman(2).

Sunchocola and Adriana's Grande are 6 feet tall. That's right, 6 feet tall. It's June 8, folks! This is ridiculous. German Orange Strawberry isn't that far behind, heightwise.
