There was no harvest on Thursday. Neither of us slept well. It got up to 107.2 on Wednesday and we didn't cool down the bedroom like we should have. My wife is ill and our bedroom was simply too hot for us to sleep well. I woke up before 5 in the morning, sweating. So I took care of a couple errands and went out for breakfast.
And yesterday it got up to 109.4 degrees. Yikes! But we cooled the room this time and the night was a tad cooler than the night before. We both slept well, certainly better than the night before.
But boy is it hot. Some of our plants are becoming bone dry. To be fair the plants will become bone dry anyway, just not so soon.
My wife pulled out Big Zebra yesterday and I believe she watered the pots the day before.
We've now harvested over 2300 SunGold tomatoes (2333), over 200 Snow White(1) tomatoes (213) and over 50 Chinese Tea tomatoes (51)!

Loteria Grill Was A Blast!
Today's harvest includes 23 SunGold, 7 Black Cherry(1), 6 Yellow Furry Boar, 6 Husky Cherry Red(1), 4 Snow White(1), 4 Indigo Rose, 4 Sweet Million, 3 Snow White(2), 3 Husky Cherry Red(2), 3 Black Cherry(2), 2 Indigo Apple(2), 2 Sweet 100, 2 Ella's Pink Plum, 2 Red Currant, 2 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 2 Yellow Perfection, 2 SunSugar, 2 Pink Furry Boar, 2 Pineapple Pig (7 ounces), 2 Redfield Beauty, Chinese Tea, Berkeley Tie Dye, White Zebra, Sweet Baby Girl, Black Krim(2), Black From Tula, Creme Brulee, Delicious (6 ounces), Neves Azorean Red (17 ounces), Gypsy, Red Boar(1), Ramapo (8 ounces), Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red and Tolstoi for a total of 97 tomatoes.
The TomatoMania event at the Loteria Grill was a ton of fun! We brought German Orange Strawberry, Pineapple Pig, Indigo Apple, Yellow Furry Boar, Pineapple and Pink Furry Boar for consumption. We met fellow TomatoManiacs again and of course it's fun to reconnect and all. My wife brought tomato jelly for Scott Daigre. He made sure to stash it away. My wife also got an autograph from him for his recent article in Grow magazine.
My wife and I had a blast. Lots of tomatoes and good food. Time went by very quickly.
Last night we tried Aunt Ruby's German Green and it was terrific!
I told my wife that she can pull Chile Verde. Others may be going soon.
A Pineapple(2) tomato is maturing.
We've now harvested over 2200 SunGold tomatoes (2216). And we've harvested over 500 back yard tomatoes this month.

Harvested Over 7000 Tomatoes This Year!
Today's harvest includes 33 SunGold, 20 Black Cherry(1), 13 Husky Cherry Red(2), 10 Sweet Baby Girl, 9 Husky Cherry Red(1), 6 Snow White(2), 5 Snow White(1), 5 Garden Peach, 5 Noire Charbonneuse(2), 4 Porkchop(1), 4 Indigo Rose, 4 SunSugar, 4 Pink Furry Boar, 4 Black Cherry(2), 4 Black and Brown Boar(2), 3 Black Krim(2) (6 ounces), 3 Gypsy, 3 Ella's Pink Plum, 2 Red Currant, 2 Carmello, 2 Big Zebra (6 ounces, 7 ounces), 2 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 2 Ramapo, 2 Speckled Roman(3), 2 Yellow Furry Boar, 2 Indigo Apple(2), 2 Black and Brown Boar(1), 2 Jaune Flamme(2), 2 Purple Dog Creek (10 ounces, 11 ounces), 2 Berkeley Tie Dye (6 ounces), 2 Redfield Beauty, 2 Jaune Flamme(1), Nyagous(1), Pierce's Pride(1), Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg, Sweet Million, Marianna's Peace (12 ounces), Big Bite, Yellow Perfection, Marmara (6.5 ounces), Creme Brulee, Delicious (6 ounces), Amazon Chocolate, Earl of Edgecombe, Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red and Green Grape for a total of 181 tomatoes.
On Monday my wife watered the front yard tomatoes. Yesterday she got to some of the back yard tomatoes and pulled out Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2).
In the evening we tried a taste test between Brad's Black Heart and German Orange Strawberry. Going in we thought German Orange Strawberry would win because Brad's Black Heart was a little soft. Turns out the opposite occurred -- Brad's Black Heart was the clear winner. Brad's Black Heart was delicious, with a deep, complex, juicy and a bit winey tasting tomato. German Orange Strawberry wasn't quite ripe enough. And it "suffered" from a problem that sometimes occurs with larger heirlooms -- the maturity level varied within the tomato. Parts of the tomato were ready to eat and parts of it weren't quite there. We're big fans of German Orange Strawberry. It's just that parts of this particular tomato wasn't quite ready.
Here's a picture of the two tomatoes, with some crackers and round mozzarella cheese slices. The glare on the German Orange Strawberry slices makes it look a bit like egg yolks, but it's all tomato slices.
We've now harvested over 2100 SunGold tomatoes (2114) and over 7000 tomatoes (7133) this year!

Harvested Neves Azorean Red and Aunt Ruby's German Green!
Saturday's harvest includes 52 SunGold, 25 Black Cherry(1), 16 Husky Cherry Red(1), 14 Snow White(1), 13 Husky Cherry Red(2), 12 Black Cherry(2), 7 Indigo Rose, 6 Yellow Perfection, 6 Snow White(2), 6 Garden Peach, 5 SunSugar, 4 Jaune Flamme(2), 4 Black and Brown Boar(2), 3 Indigo Apple(1), 3 Speckled Roman(2), 3 Indigo Apple(2), 3 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 3 Delicious, 3 Matt's Wild Cherry, 3 Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg, 2 Aunt Ruby's German Green (new) (14 ounces, 7 ounces), 2 Green Grape, 2 Gypsy, 2 Marmara, 2 Amazon Chocolate (7 ounces), 2 Persimmon (13 ounces, 14 ounces), 2 Black Krim(2) (7 ounces, 11.5 ounces), 2 Black and Brown Boar(1), 2 Marianna's Peace (9 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Pink Furry Boar, 2 Speckled Roman(3) (6 ounces), 2 Oaxacan Pink (6 ounces, 9 ounces), 2 Jaune Flamme(1), 2 Noire Charbonneuse(1), 2 Chinese Tea, 2 Berkeley Tie Dye, Neves Azorean Red (new) (17.5 ounces), Big Bite (7 ounces), Ramapo (10 ounces), Amana Orange (12 ounces), Speckled Roman(1), Black From Tula, Vorlon (9 ounces), Watermelon (9.5 ounces), Porkchop(1) (10.5 ounces), Redfield Beauty, Yellow Furry Boar, Taxi, Carmello, Crimson Cushion, Dr. Wyche's Yellow (7 ounces), Sweet Million, Big Zebra (9 ounces), Pineapple(1) (18 ounces), Thessaloniki, Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Creme Brulee (6 ounces), Noire Charbonneuse(2), Red Boar(2) and Earl of Edgecombe for a total of 245 tomatoes.
Today's harvest: Nothing, I didn't harvest.
Saturday we invited family and friends over for a tomato party! However, there was a death in the family on my wife's side so none of her relatives made it -- totally understandable. We're truly sorry about uncle Raymond's untimely passing.
We ended up with about 25 people or so at the party. My wife had started preparing for this party starting on Wednesday and continued to put in a tremendous effort right through the party. Best we can tell, everybody had a great time.
Everyone gravitated toward the Indigo Rose tomato. Coincidentally, there was a story in the Saturday Los Angeles Times about the Indigo Rose tomato. A Persimmon was cut and shared and a couple people just adored the meaty taste.
The people that made it to the party was a good cross-section of Los Angeles, people from all walks of life. It makes me proud that people from disparate backgrounds can come together, mingle and have a great time. My wife deserves tremendous kudos for putting it all together. She's the best!
For those that visited, thanks so much for coming!
My wife started cleaning after the party -- I helped but she did a majority of the cleanup -- but we weren't able to clear the counter of plates, pans and such. We were both utterly exhausted this morning, let alone when we went to bed.
This evening we tried one of the Aunt Ruby's German Green tomatoes. My wife really liked it, I liked it less so, but I clearly liked it. Two thumbs up!
We've now harvested over 1900 SunGold tomatoes (1935), over 700 Husky Cherry Red(1) tomatoes (707), over 300 Black Cherry(1) tomatoes (308) and over 100 Snow White(1) tomatoes (109).
We've now harvested over 2500 tomatoes in the front yard (2512) and over 5500 tomatoes in July (5571).
Monday's total should be artificially high, assuming I complete it.

Harvested Over 6000 Tomatoes This Year!
Today's harvest includes 40 SunGold, 33 Black Cherry(1), 28 Husky Cherry Red(1), 16 Husky Cherry Red(2), 8 Black Cherry(2), 8 Snow White(1), 6 Indigo Rose, 6 Black and Brown Boar(2), 6 Yellow Perfection, 6 Snow White(2), 5 Pink Furry Boar, 5 SunSugar, 5 Garden Peach, 5 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 4 Green Grape, 4 Amazon Chocolate (7.5 ounces, 8 ounces), 4 Thessaloniki (7 ounces), 3 Creme Brulee (6 ounces, 6 ounces), 3 Redfield Beauty, 3 Black Krim(2), 2 Speckled Roman(2), 2 Brown Berry, 2 Black and Brown Boar(1), 2 Earl of Edgecombe, 2 Marmara (6 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Noire Charbonneuse(2), 2 Speckled Roman(3), 2 Yellow Furry Boar, 2 Crimson Cushion, Marianna's Peace (16 ounces), Chinese Tea, Watermelon (8 ounces), Black Krim(1) (8 ounces), Nebraska Wedding (9 ounces), Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2), Jaune Flamme(1), Indigo Apple(1), Big Zebra, Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg, Japanese Black Trifele, Taxi, Purple Dog Creek (10.5 ounces), Persimmon (11 ounces), Red Boar(2) and Jaune Flamme(2) for a total of 232 tomatoes.
I'm a little surprised that the numbers have stayed as solid for this long. SunGold is finally starting to fade but the two Black Cherry and the two Snow White plants have picked up the slack.
The tomato sizes are starting to dwindle and the plants are looking ragged. Noire Charbonneuse(1), Chinese Tea and Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) may not last much longer. However, many plants will have a second wind. Sweet Baby Girl already has a second wind and has maturing tomatoes again.
My wife watered the back yard containers.
We've now harvested over 3000 tomatoes in the back yard for the month of July (3151) and over 6000 tomatoes for the year (6187).

Today's harvest includes 44 SunGold, 30 Black Cherry(1), 18 Husky Cherry Red(1), 15 Husky Cherry Red(2), 13 Snow White(1), 7 Black Cherry(2), 6 Indigo Apple(1), 4 SunSugar, 4 Garden Peach, 3 Indigo Rose, 3 Berkeley Tie Dye (9 ounces, 8.5 ounces), 3 Red Currant, 3 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 3 Yellow Perfection, 3 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(1) (6.5 ounces, 8 ounces), 3 Redfield Beauty, 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow (7.5 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 2 Amazon Chocolate (7.5 ounces, 8 ounces), 2 Nebraska Wedding (12 ounces, 7 ounces), 2 Big Bite (9.5 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Ramapo, 2 Pink Furry Boar (6 ounces), 2 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 2 Noire Charbonneuse(2), 2 Nyagous(1), 2 Speckled Roman(3) (7 ounces, 7 ounces), 2 Speckled Roman(2), 2 Matt's Wild Cherry, 2 Thessaloniki, Big Zebra (new) (19.5 ounces), Jaune Flamme(2), Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg, Black and Brown Boar(1), Pierce's Pride(1) (9 ounces), Marianna's Peace (8 ounces), Taxi, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) (6 ounces), Jaune Flamme(1), Italian Heirloom (6.5 ounces), White Zebra, Black From Tula (6 ounces), Chinese Tea, Noire Charbonneuse(1), Porkchop(1) (10.5 ounces), Purple Dog Creek (8 ounces), Oaxacan Jewel (9 ounces), Brad's Black Heart (10 ounces), Black Krim(2) (9 ounces), Creme Brulee (9.5 ounces), Oaxacan Pink (6 ounces), German Orange Strawberry, Yellow Furry Boar, Delicious, Earl of Edgecombe, Watermelon and Snow White(2) for a total of 215 tomatoes.
The harvested Big Zebra is a beauty! My wife was crowing about how beautiful it looked.
I took a look at Neves Azorean Red this morning. The plant isn't too tall but it has a few unripe tomatoes. I haven't paid any attention to it because nothing's maturing on the vines. However, a week ago I thought the same thing about Earl of Edgecombe until I took a look at it and found several slightly overripe tomatoes.
My wife watered parts of the back yard yesterday.
We've now harvested over 1800 SunGold tomatoes for the year (1843). And we've now harvested over 3500 tomatoes in the back yard (3569) and over 5000 tomatoes for July (5091).

I realized yesterday afternoon that I had missed the second to back row in the back yard cutout. I made it a point to go there today and found some good Amazon Chocolate, Black Cherry(2) and Ramapo tomatoes.
My wife watered some of the front yard tomatoes yesterday.
After today's harvest I told my wife that Paul Robeson was done. She pulled it out about 20 minutes later.
Other than that, Black Cherry and Snow White are keeping our numbers high. We like both tomatoes, so this is great!
A Big Zebra tomato is maturing. And I need to take a look at Neves Azorean Red, I don't know what the heck is happening with that plant. I know we haven't harvested anything for this one.
We've harvested over 200 Black Cherry(1) tomatoes (220) and 100 Garden Peach tomatoes. Also, we've now harvested over 2000 front yard tomatoes in July and over 5500 tomatoes for 2012 (5739).

Harvested Over 4500 Tomatoes This Year!
Today's harvest includes 72 SunGold, 23 Husky Cherry Red(1), 19 Husky Cherry Red(2), 12 Black Cherry(1), 9 Garden Peach, 7 Snow White(1), 5 Yellow Perfection, 4 Carmello (6 ounces), 4 Jaune Flamme(2), 4 SunSugar, 4 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 4 Black From Tula (9 ounces, 8 ounces, 9.5 ounces), 3 Speckled Roman(3) (7 ounces), 3 Yellow Furry Boar (6.5 ounces), 3 Pink Furry Boar (6 ounces), 3 Matt's Wild Cherry, 3 Brown Berry, 2 Black and Brown Boar(2), 2 Delicious (6 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Red Currant, 2 Yellow Currant, 2 Black and Brown Boar(1), 2 Indigo Rose, 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow (7 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 2 Crimson Cushion (8 ounces), 2 Green Grape, 2 Snow White(2), 2 Brad's Black Heart (12 ounces), 2 Japanese Black Trifele (8 ounces), 2 Creme Brulee (7 ounces), 2 Jaune Flamme(1), 2 Watermelon (8.5 ounces, 10.5 ounces), Noire Charbonneuse(1), Noire Charbonneuse(2), Berkeley Tie Dye, Vorlon (10 ounces), Speckled Roman(2) (6 ounces), Pineapple Pig (17 ounces), Oaxacan Jewel (12.5 ounces), Gypsy, Marmara (6 ounces), Black Krim(1) (9.5 ounces), Black Krim(2), Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) (7.5 ounces), Persimmon (14 ounces), Italian Heirloom (9 ounces), Taxi and Marianna's Peace (9 ounces) for a total of 228 tomatoes.
My wife will appreciate fewer harvested tomatoes today. Yesterday she completed the watering of the back yard tomatoes but otherwise spent the whole day processing and giving away tomatoes. It was an all day job and understandably she was a bit overwhelmed by the end of the day.
This morning we taste tested Yellow Furry Boar and Creme Brulee. Yellow Furry Boar was a nice, smooth tasting milky yellow tomato. But our collective socks were knocked off by Creme Brulee. The taste really can't be condensed down into a simple description. I find it to be a great combination between both a red tomato (tomato taste) with a brown tomato (smooth, smoky undertones). Both flavors are there but neither dominates. Both tomatoes worked but Creme Brulee was just outstanding.
A Red Boar(2) is maturing.
We've now harvested over 1400 SunGold tomatoes for the year (1446). Also, we've now harvested over 2000 back yard tomatoes in July (2065), over 3500 overall for the month (3674) and over 4500 for the year (4538).

Harvested Gypsy, Paul Robeson, Omar's Lebanese and Amana Orange!
Today's harvest includes 87 SunGold, 21 Husky Cherry Red(1), 19 Husky Cherry Red(2), 11 SunSugar, 9 Black Cherry(1), 8 Jaune Flamme(1), 8 Yellow Perfection, 7 Yellow Currant, 6 Garden Peach, 5 Crimson Cushion (7 ounces, 6 ounces), 5 Pink Furry Boar, 5 Japanese Black Trifele, 5 Matt's Wild Cherry, 4 Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), 4 Green Grape, 4 Speckled Roman(3) (6 ounces), 3 Gypsy (new), 3 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) (9.5 ounces, 6 ounces, 7 ounces), 3 Noire Charbonneuse(1), 3 Snow White(1), 3 Olga's Round Yellow Chicken Egg (8 ounces, 8.5 ounces), 3 Carmello (6 ounces), 2 Red Currant, 2 Redfield Beauty, 2 Black and Brown Boar(2), 2 Speckled Roman(2), 2 Watermelon (8 ounces, 8 ounces), 2 Black Krim(1) (6 ounces, 8 ounces), 2 Pineapple Pig (19 ounces, 13.5 ounces), 2 Nyagous(1), 2 Indigo Apple(2), 2 Black Krim(2) (7 ounces, 7 ounces), Omar's Lebanese (new) (17.5 ounces), Paul Robeson (new), Amana Orange (new) (15 ounces), Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(1) (7.5 ounces), Oaxacan Jewel (9.5 ounces), Speckled Roman(1), Vorlon, Jaune Flamme(2), Indigo Apple(1), Dr. Wyche's Yellow (10 ounces), Black From Tula (8 ounces), Pineapple(1) (7 ounces), Thessaloniki (6 ounces), Noire Charbonneuse(2), Taxi and Indigo Rose for a total of 262 tomatoes.
One of the only disappointments in 2007 was Omar's Lebanese. From memory, our largest tomato off of that plant that year was 9 ounces. It didn't taste special at all. But the one we harvested today looks beautiful! The 2 Pineapple Pig tomatoes are exquisite and Amana Orange is quite attractive as well.
Do you know how silly it is to write that even though we harvested 87 SunGold tomatoes today we may finally be slowing down?
A Ramapo tomato is maturing. A Red Boar(2) was maturing but it had severe blossom end rot and was tossed yesterday.
We've harvested over 400 Husky Cherry Red(2) tomatoes (411) and 100 Yellow Perfection tomatoes (102)
We've now harvested over 3000 tomatoes in July (3147) and over 4000 tomatoes for the year (4011).

Harvested Oaxacan Pink, Brown Berry and Pierce's Pride(1)
Today's harvest includes 66 SunGold, 11 Husky Cherry Red(2), 10 Husky Cherry Red(1), 9 Red Currant, 4 Black and Brown Boar(1) (7 ounces), 4 Yellow Currant, 4 Crimson Cushion (8 ounces, 6 ounces), 4 Yellow Perfection, 3 Black Cherry(1), 3 Jaune Flamme(1), 3 Matt's Wild Cherry, 3 SunSugar, 3 Italian Heirloom (6.5 ounces, 11 ounces, 8 ounces), 3 Indigo Apple(1), 2 Sweet 100, 2 Thessaloniki, 2 Black Cherry(2), 2 Black Krim(2), Pierce's Pride(1) (new), Brown Berry (new), Oaxacan Pink (new), Nyagous(1), Speckled Roman(1), Chinese Tea, Berkeley Tie Dye, Redfield Beauty, Noire Charbonneuse(1), Oaxacan Jewel (13 ounces), Speckled Roman(2) (7.5 ounces), Ella's Pink Plum, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(1) (8.5 ounces), Nyagous(2) (not Nyagous), Big Bite (10 ounces), Black From Tula (13 ounces), Pink Furry Boar, Carmello, Garden Peach, Watermelon (12 ounces), Indigo Rose, Tolstoi, Snow White(2) and Green Grape for a total of 162 tomatoes.
My wife handed me some "tomato chips" that she made with the dehydrator. I ate them at work. They were tasty!
Yesterday my wife and I taste tested Pineapple Pig, Pink Furry Boar and Momataro, a tomato brought by my mother-in-law. Pineapple Pig was quite good with a mild, delicious taste (it reminded my wife of Porkchop). My wife had a one word response for Pink Furry Boar -- "Winner!". A refreshing and very good tasting tomato. Momataro was meaty but slightly less tasty than the first two. That's not as much of a complaint as it may sound -- it was only "quite good". I'd grow it. My wife just loved this tomato.
Brown Berry wasn't a surprise. I forgot to include it in yesterday's maturing tomatoes. But yesterday's 8 Snow White(2) tomatoes were a complete surprise.
Oaxacan Pink will probably end up being another Oaxacan Jewel but for now we'll leave it as is. The Brown Berry plant does not look good at all. It'll be good for about four tomatoes.
Now Black Cherry(1) is doubled over. We didn't get around to repairing it yesterday evening.
Whatever ate half of a Big Zebra also took out 3 Pineapple(1) tomatoes. 2 of them were almost completely eaten.
I got up to 104.5 yesterday. Still hot!
Maturing tomatoes include Marmara and Black Krim(1).
We've now harvested over 800 SunGold tomatoes (820) and over 1000 front yard tomatoes (1001).

Harvested Amazon Chocolate, Snow White(2) and Pierce's Pride(2)!
Today's harvest includes 51 SunGold, 12 Red Currant, 12 Husky Cherry Red(1), 11 Husky Cherry Red(2), 8 Snow White(2) (new), 6 Yellow Perfection, 5 Yellow Currant, 4 Carmello (9.5 ounces), 4 Indigo Rose, 4 Green Grape, 3 Indigo Apple(1), 3 Pink Furry Boar, 3 Redfield Beauty, 3 Speckled Roman(2), 3 Italian Heirloom (12 ounces, 11 ounces, 7 ounces), 2 Thessaloniki (7.5 ounces), 2 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) (9.5 ounces), 2 SunSugar, 2 Noire Charbonneuse(1), 2 Crimson Cushion, 2 Speckled Roman(1), 2 Chinese Tea, Pierce's Pride(2) (new), Amazon Chocolate (new) (8 ounces), Berkeley Tie Dye (11.5 ounces), Nyagous(1), Jaune Flamme(1), Black and Brown Boar(1), Oaxacan Jewel (16 ounces), Matt's Wild Cherry, Ella's Pink Plum, Black Cherry(1), Japanese Black Trifele (6 ounces), Garden Peach, Speckled Roman(3), Snow White(1), Black and Brown Boar(2), Indigo Apple(2) and Jaune Flamme(2) for a total of 163 tomatoes.
Black Cherry(1) needs more attention. After falling into Brad's Black Heart on Monday, it's now doubled over in the other direction. I'll need my wife's help in propping it up again. The reason it's falling and doubling over is it has a lot of fruit high up in the tree. Even though the numbers haven't been too crazy for this plant, at some point they will rise.
Yesterday it got up to 106.5 degrees at Pierce College. It's hot! This will sterilize any new blooms (sorry Copper River) for sure, but also push growing tomatoes to maturity.
The Speckled Roman(3) pushes out long Speckled Romans. They're a bit on the thin side, but long, reminding me of a carrot.
Maturing tomatoes include Pineapple(1) and Porkchop(2).

Harvested Pink Furry Boar!
Today's harvest includes 44 SunGold, 13 Husky Cherry Red(1), 10 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 Yellow Currant, 6 Red Currant, 5 Garden Peach, 5 Yellow Perfection, 4 Nyagous(1), 4 SunSugar, 3 Green Grape, 3 Carmello, 3 Crimson Cushion, 2 Berkeley Tie Dye (7 ounces, 16 ounces), 2 Italian Heirloom (9 ounces, 8 ounces), 2 Matt's Wild Cherry, 2 Noire Charbonneuse(1) (7 ounces, 6.5 ounces), 2 Big Bite (9 ounces), 2 Black From Tula (7 ounces), 2 Pineapple Pig (9.5 ounces, 9 ounces), Pink Furry Boar (new), Dr. Wyche's Yellow, Sweet Million, Black Cherry(1), Snow White(1), Watermelon (9.5 ounces) and Indigo Rose for a total of 128 tomatoes.
I couple of tomato plants in the back yard had a 45 degree angle -- they got top heavy -- so I needed to stake them. I also staked a couple more (Berkeley Tie Dye being one of them) that had issues.
Something besides a bird ate a big chunk out of a large Big Zebra tomato last night. Perhaps an opossum?
My wife went to a party last night with some friends and of course she brought tomatoes. According to the consensus at the party, Pineapple Pig was a little watery and bland. But the tomato "chips" dried in the humidifier was a huge hit. The first batch was completely gone -- nothing remained.
Pink Furry Boar is a cute looking tomato, looking somewhat like an apple.
Both Pierce's Pride plants have maturing tomatoes.
We've now harvested over 600 SunGold tomatoes (630) and over 300 Husky Cherry Red(1) tomatoes (307). And we've harvested over 2000 tomatoes for the year (2006).

Hay Laid Down, Tomato Cages Assembled
Today's harvest: 2 Husky Cherry Red(2) tomatoes.
Yesterday my wife watered the front yard tomatoes and the container plants in the back yard. She also spread hay across the ground around our front yard tomato plants and in the south garden in the back yard. I don't know if I mentioned it previously but she had completed spreading hay in the back yard cutout and the "Far East" last week.
Also, she installed the three cages we finished yesterday.
When I arrived home from work we completed assembling the five cut pieces into tomato cages.
More plants with growing tomatoes include Tolstoi, Pink Furry Boar, Brad's Black Heart, Pineapple(1), Big Bite and Black From Tula.

Seven Seedlings Planted Today!
Yesterday I got off work a bit later than I have, and was only able to make a hole in the ground ready for planting, but no planting done.
Last Friday, we got over an inch of rain. This Friday, it got over 98 degrees at Pierce College. Wild weather.
Today I knew it was going to be hot again but I had chores to do. I set my alarm for 7 AM but by the time I got home it was after 9:30 and it was heating up. I dug two more holes before I started to overheat and left it at that.
In the evening it started to cool down after getting up to 95 degrees. I dug two more holes while my wife planted. The first hole was easy. I must have dug there previously. I saw crushed gypsum in the hole (added last year), the soil was good with very few rocks. The second hole, though, more than made up for the first. I hit asphalt with every shovel dig.
My wife had noticed that several of the tomato plants need additional soil. So our plan to counteract that is to dig holes, add fertilizer to the soil along with egg shells or a whole egg and place it all back in the hole. Tamp it down and fill it up again. My wife will partially dig it out again, enough to plant the seedling.
My wife watered the front yard and back yard tomatoes today. She planted Red Currant, Yellow Currant, Sweet 100 and Sweet Million in pots. Green Grape was planted in the south garden by the kitchen. Pink Furry Boar and Yellow Perfection were planted in the holes I made east of the lemon tree.
The weather is significantly cooler this evening.
I believe I am three holes ahead, meaning that I've dug and refilled three holes waiting for seedlings. I'll dig more holes tomorrow.
