Sweet Carneros Pink Having a Second Wind

Thursday's harvest includes 11 Matt's Wild Cherry, 10 Sweet Carneros Pink, 9 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 Snow White, 5 SunGold(1), 4 Stupice, 3 Orange And Green Zebra, 3 Kellogg's Breakfast, 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Yellow Brandywine, 2 Coyote (not Coyote), 2 Red Zebra, 2 Vorlon, 2 Neves Azorean Red, 2 Porkchop, Green Zebra(1), Haley's Purple Comet, Persimmon(1), Golden Mama, Green Grape, Big White Pink Stripe, Garden Peach, Black Krim(1) and Aunt Ruby's German Green(3) (6 ounces) for a total of 75 tomatoes.

I added fertilizer to the back yard container plants. Also, I passed out bags of tomatoes to a couple friends of ours.

Today's harvest includes 12 Sweet Carneros Pink, 11 Matt's Wild Cherry, 7 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 SunGold(1), 5 Snow White, 4 Garden Peach, 4 Kellogg's Breakfast, 3 Orange And Green Zebra, 3 Stupice, 3 Coyote (not Coyote), 2 Persimmon (8 ounces), 2 Michael Pollan, 2 Crimson Cushion(2), Large Pink Anna(1), Green Doctor's Kiwi(1) (not Green Doctor's Kiwi), Big White Pink Stripe, Oaxacan Jewel(2), Australian Giant Oxheart and Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red for a total of 71 tomatoes.

Sweet Carneros Pink is having a good second wind. The fruits look good and are about 60 percent of the size of the first wave. Stupice is coming off a good second wind, the second wind tomatoes looking as good as the first wind tomatoes.

Other than that, plants are burning out. Sweet 100 has a disease where it looks like it's covered in a spider web material. But we're both busy so we haven't taken it out yet.

Harvested Over 3500 Tomatoes For August!

Today's harvest includes 19 Matt's Wild Cherry, 17 Snow White, 4 Sweet Carneros Pink, 3 Stupice, 3 Husky Cherry Red(2), 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Orange And Green Zebra, Garden Peach, Kellogg's Breakfast, Paul Robeson(2), Yellow Brandywine, Australian Giant Oxheart and Aunt Ruby's German Green(3) (10.5 ounces) for a total of 56 tomatoes.

Today's harvest was hindered by a lot of morning glare. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

We've now harvested over 3500 tomatoes for August (3512)! I believe this is now officially our highest harvest total in August ever.

We've now harvested over 100 Stupice tomatoes (101)! And yesterday we reached 350 harvested SunSugar tomatoes.

Most of today's harvest was eaten for breakfast.

It was unusual to get a blemish-free beefsteak tomato this late in the season -- we ate it and it was very good -- but to get a blemish free Aunt Ruby's German Green, which is prone to blemishes was a very pleasant and happy surprise!

Well, it looks like Snow White has had it's first run. The plant should be strong enough to have a second and perhaps a third wind.

Both my wife and I tried Neves Azorean Red atop of mozzarella cheese sitting on a bagel for dinner last night. It's a keeper, we both really enjoyed this tomato.

My wife watered the front yard tomatoes yesterday.

A Pineapple tomato is maturing.

We tried Michael Pollan last night and it was quite good. I cut up a Pink Berkeley Tie Dye and placed the slices over an egg white omelette. The combination was great!

My wife made tomato jelly on Friday and it is delicious!! You can put it on anything where jelly would go and it would be a terrific addition. Again, it's truly delicious!

Neves Azorean Red and Hungarian Heart have maturing tomatoes.

The Volunteer(1) will be pulled soon. There's "rust" over all of the plant and all of the tomatoes. The tomatoes look visually unappealing.

Wow, the tide went out, and fast! SunSugar, Matt's Wild Cherry and the two Husky Cherry Red plants have peaked, though both are strong enough to have a second wave.

My wife watered in the fertilizer in the rest of the container plants. She also cleaned out the dead growth in the SunSugar plant

Harvested Porkchop and Portuguese Neighbor!

Today's harvest includes 18 SunSugar, 13 Matt's Wild Cherry, 9 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 Bloody Butcher, 6 SunGold(1), 4 Husky Cherry Red(1), 4 Green Grape, 3 Vorlon (8 ounces), 3 Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, 3 Haley's Purple Comet, 2 Honkin' Big Black Cherry, 2 Golden Mama, 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Lime Green Salad, 2 Stupice, 2 Sweet Carneros Pink, 2 Black And Brown Boar, Porkchop (9 ounces) (new), Portuguese Neighbor (15 ounces) (new), Australian Giant Oxheart (13 ounces) Paul Robeson(1), Volunteer(1), Green Doctor's Kiwi(2), Kellogg's Breakfast, Black Seaman(2) (6 ounces) and Garden Peach for a total of 93 tomatoes.

Porkchop was a bit of a surprise. It's a beautifully brightly striped yellow tomato. If it tastes as good as it looks it will taste fantastic. I can't wait!

The harvested Portuguese Neighbor nearly weighed a pound. It's colored pink. I may have picked it a day early.

Side note: Green Doctor's Kiwi(1) isn't a Green Doctor's Kiwi. The tomatoes are too big. None of the tomatoes have matured so we're not sure what it is at this point.

A German Orange Strawberry is maturing.

Harvested Three New Tomatoes!

Today's harvest includes: 10 SunSugar, 4 Paul Robeson(1), 3 Black Cherry, 3 Stupice, 3 Indian Stripe, 2 Creme Brulee, 2 SunGold(1), 2 Bloody Butcher, 2 Honkin' Big Black Cherry, 2 Green Grape, 2 Volunteer(1), 2 Japanese Black Trifele, 2 Matt's Wild Cherry, Vorlon (new), Haley's Purple Comet (new), Australian Giant Oxheart (new), Golden Mama, Husky Cherry Red(1), Jaune Flamme, Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, Lime Green Salad and Pierce's Pride for a total of 48 tomatoes.

Haley's Purple Comet was a bit of a surprise. I noticed it yesterday evening. The mature tomato was well hidden. As you now know, I decided it was ripe enough to harvest.

More plants have tomatoes that are maturing. They include Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Black and Brown Boar and Paul Robeson(2). I'm sure there are others not listed here.

Seven More Plants With Tomatoes

More plants with tomatoes include Indian Stripe, Portuguese Neighbour, Kellogg's Breakfast, Pierces's Pride, Black and Brown Boar, Crimson Cushion (2) and Australian Giant Oxheart.

I'm getting into a routine of training the tomato plants every other day. That will increase to every day shortly.

We now have three volunteers in the raised bed. One has about 15 tomatoes on it. A second one is sprouting about eight feet away. Yesterday we noticed a third had sprouted within an inch of the volunteer with 15 tomatoes. It looked like one plant, but is really two plants.

Some of our plants are already nearly 3 feet tall. Almost all have great color.

Lots of Rocks and Asphalt and Planted Tomatoes In The Backyard

On Friday my wife replaced Cherokee Green with Dr. Wyche's Yellow. She also planted Michael Pollan (the tomato ;)) in a pot.

In the evening I turned an area east of the tomatoes planted near the lemon tree.

Saturday was a big planting day for both of us. Well, I dug and my wife planted.

I didn't realize how cold it had gotten over the past few nights. Friday morning it got down to 34.4 degrees and the high was only 53.5 degrees. The low on Saturday morning was 33.0 degrees and the high was only 58.1 degrees.

A couple of the tomatoes in the back yard cut out looked like they were struggling. The struggling ones were ones grown from seed. My wife replaced Black Krim with Brandywine and swapped the Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe with another of our seedlings grown from seed.

I had left a hole for a tomato a few days ago. My wife planted Sweet Carneros Pink in this hole either yesterday or the day before.

Saturday morning I dug holes in the area I had prepared the night before. I dug holes for and my wife planted Black Seaman, Cassidy's Folly and Black Krim. This area had rocks and asphalt and digging the holes was a long, tiring and laborious process.

I turned over the dirt in the south garden in the back yard. I was exhausted from digging holes in the morning and pulling out bits of rock and asphalt. But I did get it turned and in the afternoon my wife planted Big Zebra, Husky Gold and Lime Green Salad tomatoes along with squash and zucchini.

After a shower and lunch I relaxed for a few hours, then got back to it in the afternoon. The remaining area to dig is in the eastern portion of our back yard, an area rich with rocks and pieces of asphalt. Digging holes was slower and harder than before. 
 
I made four more holes, going deeper than I ever had. The last hole probably took 45 minutes to prepare and it wasn't ready – I was still hitting rocks and asphalt that I couldn't dig out about two feet down.

In the other three holes my wife planted Large Pink Anna, Chocolate Stripes(1) and Crimson Cushion(1). 
 
In the patio area in large black pots we have Aunt Ruby's German Green(1), Aunt Ruby's German Green(2), Chocolate Stripes(2), Crimson Cushion(2), Large Pink Anna, Michael Pollan (as mentioned previously), Green Doctor's Kiwi(2), Green Grape and Patio.

Aunt Ruby's German Green, Chocolate Stripes and Crimson Cushion were grown from seed. Multiple seedlings were planted in to these large black pots. Many of them flourished in this environment. My wife separated out these seedlings and we planted three of them into the ground as noted. 
 
This morning I spent an additional 45 minutes working on the large chunks of asphalt and rock that I couldn't get out the night before. I could pulverize some of the asphalt with a hammer but I really couldn't get it out. I planted Australian Giant Oxheart in this hole.

In the evening I planted a grafted SunSugar in a large pot (called the “Mighty Mato”) and Hungarian Heart in another rock and asphalt filled hole.
