Today's harvest includes 7 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 SunGold(1), 7 Matt's Wild Cherry, 4 Sweet Carneros Pink, 2 Porkchop, 2 Garden Peach, 2 Coyote (not Coyote), Neves Azorean Red, Haley's Purple Comet, Golden Mama, Jaune Flamme, Patio, SunSugar, Orange And Green Zebra, Big White Pink Stripe, Dr. Wyche's Yellow, Oaxacan Jewel(2) and Yellow Brandywine for a total of 42 tomatoes.
We've now harvested exactly 300 Garden Peach tomatoes! Also, we've harvested exactly 100 Jaune Flamme tomatoes.
Sweet Carneros Pink is over it's second wind.
It's hot out there!! Yesterday got up to 100.5 degrees and today should be hotter.

Sweet Carneros Pink Having a Second Wind
Thursday's harvest includes 11 Matt's Wild Cherry, 10 Sweet Carneros Pink, 9 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 Snow White, 5 SunGold(1), 4 Stupice, 3 Orange And Green Zebra, 3 Kellogg's Breakfast, 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Yellow Brandywine, 2 Coyote (not Coyote), 2 Red Zebra, 2 Vorlon, 2 Neves Azorean Red, 2 Porkchop, Green Zebra(1), Haley's Purple Comet, Persimmon(1), Golden Mama, Green Grape, Big White Pink Stripe, Garden Peach, Black Krim(1) and Aunt Ruby's German Green(3) (6 ounces) for a total of 75 tomatoes.
I added fertilizer to the back yard container plants. Also, I passed out bags of tomatoes to a couple friends of ours.
Today's harvest includes 12 Sweet Carneros Pink, 11 Matt's Wild Cherry, 7 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 SunGold(1), 5 Snow White, 4 Garden Peach, 4 Kellogg's Breakfast, 3 Orange And Green Zebra, 3 Stupice, 3 Coyote (not Coyote), 2 Persimmon (8 ounces), 2 Michael Pollan, 2 Crimson Cushion(2), Large Pink Anna(1), Green Doctor's Kiwi(1) (not Green Doctor's Kiwi), Big White Pink Stripe, Oaxacan Jewel(2), Australian Giant Oxheart and Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red for a total of 71 tomatoes.
Sweet Carneros Pink is having a good second wind. The fruits look good and are about 60 percent of the size of the first wave. Stupice is coming off a good second wind, the second wind tomatoes looking as good as the first wind tomatoes.
Other than that, plants are burning out. Sweet 100 has a disease where it looks like it's covered in a spider web material. But we're both busy so we haven't taken it out yet.

Harvested Over 3500 Back Yard Tomatoes For The Year!
Today's harvest includes 21 Snow White, 17 Matt's Wild Cherry, 6 Sweet Carneros Pink, 6 SunGold(1), 6 Husky Cherry Red(2), 4 Stupice, 2 Orange And Green Zebra, 2 Kellogg's Breakfast, 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Green Grape, 2 Oaxacan Jewel(2), 2 Paul Robeson(2), 2 Coyote (not Coyote), Large Pink Anna(1), Vorlon, Porkchop, Haley's Purple Comet, Persimmon(1), Golden Mama, Michael Pollan, Big White Pink Stripe, Persimmon(2), Big Zebra and Aunt Ruby's German Green(3) for a total of 85 tomatoes.
We've now harvested over 3500 back yard tomatoes for the year (3524)! Our back yard harvest is now a larger quantity than the front yard for about the past week due to the fading Matt's Wild Cherry and the large Snow White harvest.
We've now harvested 50 Kellogg's Breakfast tomatoes.

Harvested Over 5000 Tomatoes This Year!
Today's harvest includes 66 Matt's Wild Cherry, 17 Snow White, 11 Garden Peach, 7 Haley's Purple Comet, 6 Husky Cherry Red(2), 6 SunGold(1), 5 Golden Mama, 5 Orange And Green Zebra, 4 SunSugar, 3 Pineapple (11 ounces, 10 ounces), 3 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye (7 ounces), 3 Aunt Ruby's German Green(1), 3 Sweet Carneros Pink, 3 Green Zebra(2) (not Green Zebra), 2 Oaxacan Jewel(2), 2 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 2 Husky Cherry Red(1), 2 Kellogg's Breakfast (8 ounces), 2 Large Pink Anna(2), Persimmon (9 ounces), Neves Azorean Red (7.5 ounces), Bloody Butcher, Porkchop, Big White Pink Stripe, Portuguese Neighbor (9 ounces), Southern Night, Dr. Wyche's Yellow (6.5 ounces), Cassidy's Folly, Australian Giant Oxheart, Paul Robeson(2) (8 ounces), Hungarian Heart (10 ounces), Coyote (not Coyote), Jaune Flamme, Large Pink Anna(2), Honkin' Big Black Cherry and Green Doctors Kiwi(2) for a total of 169 tomatoes.
We have now harvested over 5000 tomatoes for the year! The tomato total will slow down dramatically when Matt's Wild Cherry gets exhausted, but we are on a pace to harvest about 10,000 tomatoes this year (my guess). Speaking of Matt's Wild Cherry, we've now harvested over 1100 Matt's Wild Cherry tomatoes this year.
As you saw in my previous posting, my wife has laid down hay in the "koi pond". This will help keep the ground more temperate and the hay will eventually work into the soil.

Neves Azorean Red -- A Very Good Tomato!
Today's harvest includes 48 Matt's Wild Cherry, 16 Snow White, 12 Garden Peach, 9 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 Golden Mama, 7 Husky Cherry Red(1), 5 Coyote (not Coyote), 4 Haley's Purple Comet, 4 Southern Night (6 ounces), 3 Orange And Green Zebra, 3 SunGold(1), 3 Stupice, 3 Sweet Carneros Pink, 3 Green Zebra(2) (not Green Zebra), 3 Dr. Wyche's Yellow (15 ounces, 14 ounces, 10 ounces), 2 SunSugar, 2 Portuguese Neighbor (9 ounces, 11 ounces), 2 Bloody Butcher, 2 Cassidy's Folly, 2 Green Grape, 2 Australian Giant Oxheart (9 ounces, 11.5 ounces), Green Zebra(1), Vorlon, Big White Pink Stripe (10.5 ounces), Kellogg's Breakfast (9 ounces), Black Krim(1), Jaune Flamme, Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, Chocolate Stripes(1), Patio and Big Zebra (7 ounces) for a total of 152 tomatoes.
Well, it looks like Snow White has had it's first run. The plant should be strong enough to have a second and perhaps a third wind.
Both my wife and I tried Neves Azorean Red atop of mozzarella cheese sitting on a bagel for dinner last night. It's a keeper, we both really enjoyed this tomato.
My wife watered the front yard tomatoes yesterday.
A Pineapple tomato is maturing.

It's Raining Snow White Tomatoes!
Today's harvest includes 66 Snow White, 43 Matt's Wild Cherry, 14 Garden Peach, 8 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 Black Krim (10.5 ounces), 6 Orange and Green Zebra, 6 Husky Cherry Red(1), 5 Green Grape, 5 Golden Mama, 5 Haley's Purple Comet, 4 Cassidy's Folly, 4 Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, 3 SunSugar, 2 Yellow Brandywine (14.5 ounces, 15 ounces), 2 Southern Night, 2 Sweet Carneros Pink, 2 Neves Azorean Red (12.5 ounces, 11.5 ounces), 2 Green Doctor's Kiwi(1) (not Green Doctor's Kiwi), 2 Porkchop (6 ounces), 2 SunGold(1), Portuguese Neighbor (14 ounces), Big White Pink Stripe (14 ounces), Dr. Wyche's Yellow (9 ounces), Pink Berkeley Tie Dye, Kellogg's Breakfast (18 ounces), Paul Robeson (9 ounces), Aunt Ruby's German Green (12 ounces), Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Green Zebra(2) (not Green Zebra), Large Pink Anna(2), Jaune Flamme, Stupice, Chocolate Stripes(1), Green Zebra(1) and Bloody Butcher for a total of 205 tomatoes.
Wow, it's raining Snow White tomatoes! I thought I wouldn't harvest more than 42 Snow White tomatoes two days ago, but yesterday I harvested 55. Same scenario, different day...and I harvest 66 tomatoes today.
On July 19 we harvested 112 tomatoes. A week later we harvest 109 tomatoes off of two plants.
And I shouldn't forget, there's plenty of good sized tomatoes in today's harvest, including a 18 ounce Kellogg's Breakfast, a 14.5 ounce Yellow Brandywine and two 14 ounce tomatoes, Big White Pink Stripe and Portuguese Neighbor.
Great stuff!
I stepped on a Garden Peach while harvesting this morning, scattering seeds everywhere. I counted it in our totals.

The Tide Came Back;Harvested Over 3000 Tomatoes This Year
Today's harvest includes 55 Snow White, 40 Matt's Wild Cherry, 17 Golden Mama, 12 Garden Peach, 8 Husky Cherry Red(1), 8 Husky Cherry Red(2), 4 Haley's Purple Comet, 4 Green Grape, 4 Jaune Flamme, 4 Sweet Carneros Pink, 4 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye (6.5 ounces, 6.5 ounces), 3 Big White Pink Stripe (11.5 ounces, 13 ounces, 8 ounces), 3 Stupice, 3 SunSugar, 3 Orange And Green Zebra, 3 Black Seaman(2), 3 Porkchop (6 ounces), 2 German Orange Strawberry, 2 Oaxacan Jewel, 2 Cassidy's Folly, 2 Michael Pollan, 2 Southern Night, 2 Lime Green Salad, SunGold(1), Red Zebra, Portuguese Neighbor (10.5 ounces), Green Zebra(2) (not Green Zebra), Honkin' Big Black Cherry, Kellogg's Breakfast (12.5 ounces), Big Zebra (6 ounces), Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Paul Robeson(2), Hungarian Heart (13 ounces) and Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe for a total of 201 tomatoes.
The previous high harvest total for this year was on July 13, 200 tomatoes. Usually these harvests roughly follow a bell curve. Once the original high is established, well, that's the high! Here we are, 10 days later with a new high after dropping to a "low" of 112 tomatoes on July 19. I've not experienced this before. I attribute this partially to the weather and more to all the maturing Snow White tomatoes.
Actually I had expected the "high" to be around this time of the year, based on our late planting.
We've now harvested over 3000 tomatoes this year!
Last night we ate another Porkchop. It wasn't as heavenly as the ones we ate Saturday. I recommend eating Porkchop when the tomato is soft, but not too soft.
The maturing Coyote tomato doesn't look like a Coyote tomato. It's something else.
A Mexico tomato is maturing.

What Was Life Before Porkchop?
Today's harvest includes 42 Snow White, 30 Matt's Wild Cherry, 8 Husky Cherry Red(2), 8 Husky Cherry Red(1), 6 Porkchop (9.5 ounces, 6 ounces, 7 ounces, 6 ounces, 8 ounces), 6 Garden Peach, 4 SunSugar, 4 Southern Night (6.5 ounces), 4 Golden Mama, 4 SunGold(1), 4 German Orange Strawberry (6 ounces), 3 Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, 3 Haley's Purple Comet, 3 Orange And Green Zebra, 3 Black Seaman(2), 3 Sweet Carneros Pink, 2 Oaxacan Jewel(2), 2 Portuguese Neighbor (9.5 ounces, 6.5 ounces), 2 Paul Robeson(2), 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Big White Pink Stripe, 2 Green Grape, Bloody Butcher, Patio, Aunt Ruby's German Green(3), Honkin' Big Black Cherry, Green Doctors Kiwi(2), Lime Green Salad, Hungarian Heart, Large Pink Anna(2), Green Zebra(2) (not Green Zebra), Cassidy's Folly, Australian Giant Oxheart (6.5 ounces) and Yellow Brandywine (12 ounces) for a total of 159 tomatoes.
We invited our friends Elizabeth and Ricardo over to our house for a little barbeque. We had just purchased a new gas barbeque last week and invited them over to hook it up and try it out. Everything worked fine. We'll be barbequing as it stays hot in the valley.
We had a taste test with several of our tomatoes, including Black Krim, Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Yellow Brandywine, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Porkchop and Orange And Green Zebra. Everybody's least favorite was Orange And Green Zebra, by far. It's not a bad tomato but I don't find it that attractive a tomato, either. Black Krim was tasty and juicy. Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red was just as good as I remember it -- perhaps this tomato was a bit more mellow than the last one. Aunt Ruby's German Green was very nice.
But, oh my God, everyone's favorite, including me, was Porkchop. These tomatoes weren't the Porkchop I had tried before, these were stupendously good. Wow, just wow. There's life before Porkchop and life after Porkchop and life after Porkchop is heaven. Okay, I'm being melodramatic but yesterday's Porkchop tomatoes were the best tomatoes I've had in a couple of years. This goes on our "must have" list. Now I get it!
Matt's Wild Cherry has reached over 500 harvested tomatoes.
A Coyote tomato is maturing.
My wife told me that she processed enough tomatoes to make 23 cups of tomato puree!

Harvested Neves Azorean Red; Porkchop Popular
Today's harvest includes 28 Matt's Wild Cherry, 14 Snow White, 10 Haley's Purple Comet, 8 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 Husky Cherry Red(1), 7 Golden Mama, 6 Sweet Carneros Pink, 5 Cassidy's Folly, 5 Orange And Green Zebra, 5 Black Seaman(2), 3 Southern Night (9.5 ounces), 3 SunGold(1), 3 SunSugar, 2 Neves Azorean Red (15 ounces, 11 ounces) (new), 2 Honkin' Big Black Cherry, 2 Porkchop, 2 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye (8.5 ounces), 2 Black Krim(1), 2 Green Zebra(2) (not Green Zebra), 2 German Orange Strawberry, Bloody Butcher, Persimmon (7 ounces), Vorlon (7.5 ounces), Jaune Flamme, Green Doctor's Kiwi(2), Paul Robeson(2) (7 ounces), Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Garden Peach, Kellogg's Breakfast (8.5 ounces) and Big White Pink Stripe for a total of 128 tomatoes.
The Neves Azorean Red tomatoes are a good size, though the shoulders are green but the bottom on these tomatoes are quite ripe.
My wife spent a lot of time processing our harvested tomatoes, making tomato puree. She also watered some of the tomato plants.
Several people have requested "Save those yellow tomatoes, they're delicious". People are in love with Porkchop!

Harvested Hungarian Heart!
No harvest yesterday.
Today's harvest includes 25 Matt's Wild Cherry, 10 Husky Cherry Red(2), 10 Husky Cherry Red(1), 8 Haley's Purple Comet, 8 Snow White, 8 Golden Mama, 6 SunGold(1), 4 Bloody Butcher, 4 Orange And Green Zebra, 4 Sweet Carneros Pink, 4 Garden Peach, 3 Southern Night, 3 Stupice, 3 SunSugar, 3 Porkchop (7 ounces), 3 Black Krim(1), 2 Black Seaman(2), 2 Green Zebra(2) (not Green Zebra), 2 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye (8 ounces), 2 German Orange Strawberry (6 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 2 Kellogg's Breakfast, 2 Jaune Flamme, Hungarian Heart (new), Green Doctors Kiwi(1) (not Green Doctor's Kiwi), Green Doctor's Kiwi(2), Big Zebra (7 ounces), Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, Chocolate Stripes(1), Yellow Brandywine (7.5 ounces), Paul Robeson(2), Portuguese Neighbor (11.5 ounces), Cassidy's Folly, Big White Pink Stripe (8 ounces), Persimmon (15.5 ounces) and Vorlon for a total of 131 tomatoes.
When you miss a day of harvest you would think that the next day would be near double the total amount. In practice, that's not the case. When you harvest on a daily basis, the water brought up by the roots is then placed to the other maturing tomatoes. If you miss a day, the already mature tomatoes get some of that water and the near mature tomatoes don't mature as rapidly.
The harvested Hungarian Heart has a bit of a deformity and that's why it matured quicker. There are some good large tomatoes growing on this plant coming soon.
My wife pulled five plants last night -- Aunt Ruby's German Green(2), Black And Brown Boar, Jaune Coeur de Pigeon and the two volunteers.

Harvested Big White Pink Stripe!
Today's harvest includes 25 Matt's Wild Cherry, 9 Golden Mama, 9 Husky Cherry Red(2), 8 Husky Cherry Red(1), 7 Porkchop (13 ounces, 6 ounces), 7 Haley's Purple Comet, 5 Snow White, 5 Black Krim(1), 4 Paul Robeson(2) (12 ounces, 6 ounces, 11 ounces), 4 SunSugar, 4 Southern Night (7 ounces), 4 SunGold(1), 3 Orange And Green Zebra, 3 Garden Peach, 3 German Orange Strawberry (8 ounces, 7 ounces, 8 ounces), 3 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye (11.5 ounces, 12 ounces, 13 ounces), 3 Stupice, 3 Green Grape, 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Quedlinburger Fruehe Liebe, 2 Cassidy's Folly, 2 Honkin' Big Black Cherry, Big White Pink Stripe (7 ounces) (new), Chocolate Stripes(1), Green Zebra(2) (not Green Zebra), Australian Giant Oxheart (9.5 ounces), Portuguese Neighbor (11 ounces), Persimmon (10 ounces), Black Seaman(1) (6 ounces) and Green Zebra(1) for a total of 125 tomatoes.
There was a good selection of larger tomatoes in today's harvest. I was happy with the variety of different sizes, shapes and colors.
Last night I adjusted some of the numbers in last week's blog postings, matching against the numbers entered into our online tomato spreadsheet. Interested in watching the numbers? Post a message and I'll add you to the list.
Big White Pink Stripe has a faded beige color, unusual for a tomato.
My wife has started to water the back yard tomatoes.

More Backyard Tomatoes Planted
My wife planted some more tomatoes by the lemon tree in the back yard. She planted Nyagous, Big White Pink Stripe, Orange and Green Zebra, Portuguese Neighbour, Southern Night, Pineapple, Garden Peach, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye, Emerald Evergreen, Kellogg's Breakfast, Jaune Coeur de Pigeon and Cherokee Green.
Unfortunately, Cherokee Green was dead by morning. There was permanent damage at the stem. It's assumed that the stem was eaten by cutworms or snails.
At this point, every tomato in our garden this year has been planted by my wife.
