Today's harvest includes 11 Black Cherry, 7 Husky Cherry Red(1), 6 SunGold, 5 Pineapple, 5 Husky Cherry Red(2), 4 Sugar Snack, 3 Evan's Purple Pear, 2 Sunchocola, 2 Blue Beauty, 2 Matt's Wild Cherry, Porkchop(1) (6.5 ounces) and Bread and Salt for a total of 49 tomatoes.
Today's Porkchop was a nice tomato, though the maturing was uneven. The "sun" (west) side of the tomato was more mature than the "shade" (east) side. That will even out over the next day or so. The Bread and Salt tomato was okay while the rest of the harvest was unremarkable.
I did find a small hornworm on Captain Lucky today. This is the first one I've officially found this year. I noticed damage on the Captain Lucky plant and noticed the maybe one inch hornworm on the underside of a leaf. I tossed it away.
Earlier this year I noted what looked like a full sized hornworm underneath our lemon tree. It appeared that the dogs had played with it and/or birds picked it off of a plant -- it wasn't clear. The next day it was gone. Then on the day of our tomato party I saw hornworm poop underneath Ananas Noire but never found the hornworm. So I assume the hornworm laying in the dirt underneath the lemon tree was the culprit.
We did hit a bunch of milestones today. We've now harvested exactly 1000 Sunchocola tomatoes this year! Sunchocola is our strongest remaining plant and could get a second wind. Also, we've now harvested over 200 Husky Cherry Red(1) tomatoes this year (203), harvested exactly 150 Evan's Purple Pear tomatoes this year and harvested exactly 75 Bread and Salt tomatoes this year.

Harvested Over 1000 Back Yard Tomatoes In August!
No harvest Sunday.
Today's harvest includes 17 Sugar Snack, 10 SunGold, 7 Matt's Wild Cherry, 6 Green Grape, 6 Husky Cherry Red(2), 5 Sunchocola, 3 Volunteer(4), 3 Michael Pollan, 2 Blue Gold, 2 Evan's Purple Pear, 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow, 2 Porkchop(2), 2 Husky Cherry Red(1), Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(1), Ananas Noire, Purple Bumble Bee and Golden Rave for a total of 72 tomatoes.
Ananas Noire, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(1), Blue Gold and Porkchop(2) were relatively interesting tomatoes while most of the rest were unremarkable.
My wife watered the front yard tomato plants over the weekend. The back yard tomato plants are still to be watered.
Two more plants can be pulled. We'll see if I can get to them tonight.
We've now harvested over 1000 back yard tomatoes in August (1046)! Our back yard harvest still hums along. Also, we've harvested over 950 Sunchocola tomatoes (951) this year.

Harvested Over 5000 Tomatoes This Year!
Today's harvest includes 27 Matt's Wild Cherry, 21 Sunchocola, 19 Husky Cherry Red(2), 10 Orange Paruche, 10 Husky Cherry Red(1), 7 Evan's Purple Pear, 6 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 6 Indigo Rose, 6 SunGold, 5 Bloody Butcher, 5 Black Cherry, 5 Garden Peach(2), 5 Green Grape, 4 Bread and Salt (6 ounces, 9 ounces, 8.5 ounces, 10 ounces), 4 Volunteer(4), 4 Snow White, 4 Sugar Snack, 4 Michael Pollan, 3 German Orange Strawberry (7 ounces), 3 Black Krim, 3 Nyagous, 3 Garden Peach(1), 2 Earl of Edgecombe, 2 Great White (7.5 ounces), 2 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(1), 2 Jaune Flamme, Porkchop(1), Yellow Perfection, Hungarian Heart (14 ounces), Blue Gold, Blue Beauty (8 ounces), Pineapple, Ananas Noire (6 ounces), Speckled Roman(2), Neves Azorean Red (12 ounces), Persimmon(1) (not Persimmon), Solar Flare, Stupice, Porkchop(2), Cherokee Purple and "Green Zebra" (not Green Zebra) for a total of 187 tomatoes.
Today's harvest numbers were goosed by the fact that there was no harvest yesterday.
The harvested Neves Azorean Red and Hungarian Heart tomatoes were beauties. And I continue to be impressed with the size and production of Bread and Salt.
After the harvest I pulled out Garden Peach(2). There were no more tomatoes to be harvested and the plant could have doubled for tumbleweed. There are a couple more to be pulled but we'll see if I find the time to pull them...
We've now harvested over 5000 tomatoes this year (5108)! Also, we've harvested over 2500 back yard tomatoes this year (2528), over 1200 Orange Paruche tomatoes this year (1207), over 500 tomatoes in August (569) and over 500 Matt's Wild Cherry tomatoes this year (512)!

Harvested Over 2500 Front Yard Tomatoes This Year!
Sunday's harvest includes 16 Matt's Wild Cherry, 12 Sunchocola, 12 Husky Cherry Red(1), 8 Husky Cherry Red(2), 7 Volunteer(4), 7 Evan's Purple Pear, 6 Orange Paruche, 6 SunGold, 5 Pineapple, 5 Michael Pollan, 4 Bread and Salt (9 ounces, 6 ounces), 4 Speckled Roman(2), 4 Indigo Rose, 4 Black Cherry, 4 Green Grape, 3 Bloody Butcher, 3 Blue Beauty, 3 Jaune Flamme, 3 Garden Peach(2), 2 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 2 Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(1), 2 Black Krim, 2 Nyagous, Speckled Roman(1), Blue Gold, Ananas Noire, Neves Azorean Red, Black Icicle, Dr. Wyche's Yellow, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Odoriko, Sugar Snack and Golden Rave for a total of 134 tomatoes.
I harvested in three sections on Sunday, as I commonly do. First, the front yard is harvested. This haul is brought in and a count is done. Second, the raised beds and the containers are harvested, brought in and counted. And third is the back yard tomatoes planted in the ground. When I brought in the third round, my wife had taken all the cherry tomatoes from the first two rounds and made a morning tomato salad for breakfast.
Before I brought in the third round I had added fertilizer to the container plants, the tomato plants in the raised bed area, Sunchocola and Orange Paruche. I pulled out the Odoriko tomato plant.
The tomato salad was excellent! We also had some of our "tomato chips", which are sliced tomatoes placed in the dehydrator and "cooked" for a couple of days. They were quite good as well.
Pierce College reported measurable rain last night, one hundredth of an inch. We had some trace amounts of rain a couple of times Sunday afternoon and evening. The muggy weather existed for another day.
No harvest done on Monday.
We've now harvested over 2500 tomatoes in the front yard this year (2526)! Also, we've harvested over 100 Indigo Rose toamtoes this year (101) and exactly 100 Garden Peach(2) tomatoes this year.

Harvested Paul Robeson, Porkchop(2) and Japanese Black Trifele!
Today's harvest includes 30 Orange Paruche, 18 SunGold, 17 Matt's Wild Cherry, 15 Sunchocola, 6 Garden Peach(1), 5 Husky Cherry Red(1), 4 Jaune Flamme, 4 Green Grape, 3 Bloody Butcher, 3 Indigo Rose, 3 Evan's Purple Pear, 3 Black Cherry, 3 Husky Cherry Red(2), 3 Garden Peach(3), 3 Sugar Snack, 2 Paul Robeson (new), 2 Speckled Roman(2), 2 Snow White, 2 Stupice, 2 Michael Pollan, Porkchop(2) (new), Japanese Black Trifele (new), Indigo Apple, Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Yellow Perfection, Hungarian Heart (7.5 ounces), Blue Beauty, Ananas Noire (7 ounces), Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) and Garden Peach(2) for a total of 140 tomatoes.
The Japanese Black Trifele was no surprise, neither was Paul Robeson (not sure if I mentioned this tomato as maturing) but Porkchop(2) was a bit of a surprise. However, the Paul Robesons and Porkchop(2) are undersized. Japanese Black Trifele, in a container, isn't undersized.
I had a screw up in yesterday's blog post. I originally posted it as 39 Sunchocola/15 Orange Paruche. These totals were switched; it was 39 Orange Paruche/15 Sunchocola. The blog post was fixed as well as the Orange Paruche total for the year at the bottom of the post. Exciting news to read, I'm sure...
Today marks a significant event: It's the first date in July where the back yard total is larger than the front yard total. And it wasn't close (88 back yard, 52 front yard). There were three or four dates where the harvest numbers were close, but not until today did it cross over. The three new tomatoes are all from the back yard.
The first wave from the front yard is over. Sunchocola numbers are down significantly and Orange Paruche numbers will fall soon. This does not mean there won't be a second wave for these two tomato plants -- in fact I expect it -- but the numbers for the next several weeks will be weak. Meanwhile, the back yard is still in the first wave.
Last night we tried some Blue Beauty tomatoes in a salad. Blue Beauty tomatoes taste good but the taste is not nearly as memorable as the tomato's exterior (which is near spectacular, I think).
I found the tomato dehydrator in our garage this morning. We may have dehydrated tomato chips in the very near future...
We've now harvested over 3500 tomatoes for the year (3581)! We've also harvested over 800 Orange Paruche tomatoes in July (804) and over 600 Sunchocola tomatoes in July (603)!

Harvested Blue Beauty!
Today's harvest includes 52 Sunchocola, 41 Orange Paruche, 16 Matt's Wild Cherry, 12 SunGold, 5 Black Cherry, 4 Bloody Butcher, 4 Garden Peach(2), 4 Garden Peach(3), 4 Sugar Snack, 3 Earliana, 3 Jaune Flamme, 2 German Orange Strawberry (12.5 ounces), 2 Hungarian Heart, 2 Pineapple (6 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Indigo Rose, 2 Snow White, Blue Beauty (new, 11.5 ounces), Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Yellow Perfection, Berkeley Tie Dye, Bread and Salt, Ananas Noire (8 ounces), Speckled Roman(2), Garden Peach(1), Husky Cherry Red(1) and Husky Cherry Red(2) for a total of 168 tomatoes.
Here's an image of the harvested Blue Beauty next to a quarter...
I'm not sure this image does this tomato justice. The burnt orange color on the underside is more vibrant than shown. The contrast with the blue streaking at the shoulders is striking.
We had our largest front yard total today (108). The Thursday sprinklers went off as planned but I didn't try to beat them this time. I harvested the front yard first, leaving the wet back yard for last. I'm sure I didn't hunt for tomatoes as diligently as I normally do (note the lack of Evan's Purple Pear today) as everything was wet.
A Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) is maturing.
We've now harvested over 2000 tomatoes in July (2055)!

Harvested Black Icicle!
Today's harvest includes 48 Orange Paruche, 36 Sunchocola, 20 SunGold, 16 Matt's Wild Cherry, 8 Garden Peach(2), 7 Husky Cherry Red(1), 6 Black Cherry, 6 Sugar Snack, 4 Earliana, 4 Nyagous, 4 Garden Peach(3), 3 Jaune Flamme, 2 Black Icicle (new), 2 Bloody Butcher, 2 Indigo Apple, 2 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 2 Adriana's Grande (6 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 2 Pineapple (7 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Speckled Roman(2), 2 Indigo Rose, Berkeley Tie Dye, German Orange Strawberry, Ananas Noire (10.5 ounces), Snow White, Evan's Purple Pear, Green Grape and Michael Pollan for a total of 185 tomatoes.
We have a couple of nice Black Icicle tomatoes today. These were a surprise. Not that I didn't have mature Black Icicle tomatoes, it's just that these tomatoes didn't have blossom end rot. I've probably thrown away 20 of these tomatoes before getting these two flawless tomatoes.
Today's harvest is our highest this year so far. The front yard amount (98) ties the July 3 front yard harvest amount, while the back yard amount (87) is the largest amount so far this year. 10 days ago we harvested 21 from the back yard, today 87. That's where the higher numbers are coming from.
I watered the back yard tomato plants in the ground. My wife indicated that she gets to the ones in the raised bed and in the container plants. I added fertilizer to them last night and they'll be watered in some time in the future.
Ananas Noire and Adriana's Grande continue to impress.
A Blue Beauty is maturing. And true to the name, it's a beauty. I may supply an image once I harvest it.
We've now harvested over 2500 tomatoes for the year (2542), over 800 Orange Paruche tomatoes for the year (820), over 500 Sunchocola tomatoes for the year (535) and over 100 Sugar Snack tomatoes for the year (102)!

Harvested Over 1500 Tomatoes This Month
Today's harvest includes 47 Orange Paruche, 32 Sunchocola, 13 SunGold, 11 Matt's Wild Cherry, 8 Husky Cherry Red(1), 7 Sugar Snack, 5 Snow White, 4 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 3 Evan's Purple Pear, 3 Black Cherry, 3 Garden Peach(3), 3 Bread and Salt (6 ounces, 10.5 ounces, 7 ounces), 2 Husky Cherry Red(2), 2 Indigo Rose, 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Adriana's Grande (7.5 ounces, 6.5 ounces), 2 Garden Peach(1), 2 Garden Peach(2), 2 Earl of Edgecombe (7 ounces), 2 German Orange Strawberry (10 ounces, 9 ounces), 2 Nyagous, 2 Earliana, 2 Berkeley Tie Dye, Yellow Perfection, Ananas Noire (12.5 ounces), Speckled Roman(2), Black Krim, Persimmon(2) and Green Grape for a total of 167 tomatoes.
I got started a little earlier today than I did on Thursday, trying to beat the sprinklers. But today's back yard harvest is the highest so far this year (70) and I got caught -- they turned on before I completed the back yard harvest.
Our kitchen counter is filling up...this is our largest harvest total this year.
The Clint Eastwood Rowdy Red tomatoes aren't as large as we've seen in prior years but they sure look nice with their deep red coloring. The German Orange Strawberry tomatoes look fabulous.
Today's harvest can be summed up as "more good stuff"!
We've now harvested over 1500 tomatoes this month (1535) and over 700 Orange Paruche tomatoes (725) this year! It looks like will end up over 1000 harvested Orange Paruche tomatoes harvested for the year, perhaps even before the end of the month.

Harvested 4 New Tomatoes!
Sunday's harvest includes 55 Orange Paruche, 20 Sunchocola, 14 SunGold, 10 Matt's Wild Cherry, 8 Husky Cherry Red(2), 4 Garden Peach(1), 4 Sugar Snack, 3 Ananas Noire (7 ounces, 8.5 ounces, 9.5 ounces), 3 Evan's Purple Pear, 2 Indian Stripe (new), 2 "Green Zebra" (new, not Green Zebra), 2 Indigo Apple, 2 Adriana's Grande (7.5 ounces, 9 ounces), 2 Bread and Salt (6.5 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Green Grape, 2 Husky Cherry Red(1), 2 Garden Peach(3), Golden Rave (new), Aunt Ruby's German Green (new), Solar Flare, Black Cherry, Odoriko, Cherokee Purple, Yellow Perfection, Earl of Edgecombe (6 ounces), German Orange Strawberry (9 ounces), Pineapple, Jaune Flamme, Nyagous and Michael Pollan for a total of 150 tomatoes.
Today's total matches our high harvest amount for the year, matching Friday's total (two days ago).
Golden Rave looks nice, though that may be the only good tomato we get off of that plant. "Green Zebra" has no stripes and is red. Let's just say you can't be farther away from Green Zebra unless it's cauliflower. Indian Stripe was a bit of a surprise.
The harvested Aunt Ruby's German Green made me do a double take -- could the beautiful Ananas Noires I've been harvesting be another Aunt Ruby's German Green? My wife has convinced me it is not and I agree with her but they are awfully close. The Ananas Noire tomatoes have a very tiny streak of darkness that today's Aunt Ruby's German Green doesn't have. Ananas Noire are greenish brown tomatoes but these tomatoes are heavily on the green side.
Remember last week when I thought Orange Paruche was done with the first wave? Ignore that. This isn't a second wave, it's still part of the first wave.
I continue to be impressed with output of Bread and Salt. Just a lot of nice good sized tomatoes.
We've now harvested over 500 tomatoes in the back yard in July (501)!

Orange Paruche Returns!
Today's harvest includes 42 Orange Paruche, 30 Sunchocola, 20 Matt's Wild Cherry, 18 SunGold, 6 Bread and Salt (6.5 ounces, 10 ounces, 8 ounces, 9 ounces), 5 Evan's Purple Pear, 4 Stupice, 4 Sugar Snack, 3 Jaune Flamme, 3 Husky Cherry Red(1), 2 Adriana's Grande (12.5 ounces), 2 Indigo Rose, 2 Snow White, 2 Garden Peach(3), Earl of Edgecombe (6 ounces), German Orange Strawberry, Berkeley Tie Dye, Hungarian Heart (8.5 ounces), Ananas Noire (13.5 ounces), Pineapple and Garden Peach(1) for a total of 150 tomatoes.
Orange Paruche has returned! Maybe this will turn out to be a one day blip but we'll celebrate it anyway. We love this tomato! I've also been pleasantly surprised by the output of Bread and Salt. That plant just keeps on producing a good amount of larger, good tasting tomatoes.
No new tomatoes today, but we'll probably have a Speckled Roman(2) tomorrow. I thought I had a Paul Robeson today but it had too much blossom end rot to be usable.
I adjusted the July 9 posting to reflect a harvested Berkeley Tie Dye.
We've now harvested over 500 tomatoes in the back yard (557)! Today's back yard harvest (66 tomatoes) is the highest so far this year. Also, we've harvested over 1000 tomatoes for July (1083). Our kitchen counter is getting filled with tomatoes...

Harvested Over 1500 Tomatoes For The Year!
Today's harvest includes 29 Sunchocola, 22 Orange Paruche, 12 SunGold, 12 Sugar Snack, 10 Matt's Wild Cherry, 6 Earl of Edgecombe (6 ounces), 5 Earliana, 4 Bread and Salt (6 ounces, 8 ounces, 8 ounces), 3 Yellow Perfection, 3 Adriana's Grande (15.5 ounces, 7.5 ounces), 2 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, 2 Nyagous, German Orange Strawberry (12 ounces), Ananas Noire (19 ounces), Jaune Flamme, Black Krim, Snow White, Evan's Purple Pear, Black Cherry, Husky Cherry Red(1) and Michael Pollan for a total of 119 tomatoes.
I got up early today to beat the Thursday morning sprinklers...but they went on earlier than expected. I had finished the main area and had moved to the raised bed area when the sprinklers kicked on. I harvested, then waited and waited...eventually I decided I had to get wet and get on with it. I harvested the front yard, then realized I forgot to look at Matt's Wild Cherry. While harvesting that plant I spotted another ripe Nyagous.
Today's Ananas Noire is our first harvested tomato that is over one pound. And it's a beauty. Again, if you were to look at it you would not think it was ready...but if you feel it, it's ready.
No new tomatoes today, but we have now harvested over 1500 tomatoes for the year (1587).
At the present pace we'll not get to my estimate of 5250 harvested tomatoes for July. We're on a pace for about 3000 tomatoes for July. But the harvest numbers are picking up again...

Harvested Ananas Noire and Persimmon(2)!
Today's harvest includes 29 Orange Paruche, 12 Sunchocola, 5 Janet's Jacinthe Jewel, 5 Matt's Wild Cherry, 4 SunGold, 4 Husky Cherry Red(2), 3 Husky Cherry Red(1), 3 Indigo Apple, Ananas Noire (new, 14 ounces), Persimmon(2) (new), Adriana's Grande, Earl of Edgecombe, Earliana, Jaune Flamme, Garden Peach(1) and Sugar Snack for a total of 73 tomatoes.
Well, three days is a trend...we've gone from 110 tomatoes on July 3 down to 73 today. I'll attribute to simply Sunchocola and Orange Paruche losing some steam while the larger tomatoes haven't matured yet. I can see plenty of Sunchocola tomatoes on the vines, so there's more coming...just not as many maturing as there was a few days ago.
I was concerned about harvesting Ananas Noire. It felt ready but didn't look ready. Turns out I needn't be concerned. My wife cut off a portion of Ananas Noire for us to eat and it was both refreshing and delicious! It was ready.
Tomorrow I'll harvest one or two Berkeley Tie Dye tomatoes.
Yesterday my wife pulled Janet's Jacinthe Jewel and Vorlon. Today's Janet's Jacinthe Jewel might be used in a sauce but otherwise they don't look too appetizing. Pierce's Pride isn't long for this world, either.
A Pineapple tomato is starting to mature.
Well, three days is a trend...we've gone from 110 tomatoes on July 3 down to 73 today. Harvested Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red!
Today's harvest includes 14 Orange Paruche, 7 SunGold, 6 Sunchocola, Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red (new), Yellow Perfection and Sugar Snack for a total of 30 tomatoes.
I did a little bit of tomato taping in the front yard during the harvest.
On the down side, I noticed a Jaune Flamme that got whacked (again, sigh) because our netting wasn't as tight as it could be. Also, the maturing Matt's Wild Cherry seemed to be completely gone. The SunGold tomatoes are difficult to harvest because the netting has been put on very well. But it makes it hard for my hand to get inside the netting to the mature tomatoes. And in the evening my wife found a partially eaten Sugar Snack in one of the raised beds.
On the upside, my wife told me about a ripe tomato in the front yard that I hadn't noticed. It was perfectly ready. After a brief description of where it was located, I realized it was Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red. Yum! That was a happy surprise.
In the evening my wife tightened the netting around Jaune Flamme. We added netting to Matt's Wild Cherry and Ananas Noire.
I discovered that Pierce's Pride, Dr. Wyche's Yellow and Pink Berkeley Tie Dye(2) have growing tomatoes!
Janet's Jacinthe Jewel has a maturing tomato. However, this tomato appears to be maturing because the plant is distressed.
We gave away today's harvest except Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red to a neighbor of ours.

And Four More Plants With Growing Tomatoes
Last week was mostly too hot to do anything, short of tomato training in the morning. One day I did trim the bottom branches and leaves on the back yard tomato plants. Friday through Sunday we were out of town.
Monday morning I did a bunch of tomato training. I did discover four more plants with tomatoes, all in the back yard. These include Michael Pollan, Volunteer(3), Matt's Wild Cherry and Ananas Noire. There's probably new front yard tomatoes, but I don't have a mental list of the front yard plants already reported as having tomatoes.
Some of the front yard plants are really high already. Sunchocola is about four and a half feet tall already.
Red Pear Piriform doesn't look much better. Volunteer(4) now has blooms so that complicates the transfer into the ground.

Stupice and Volunteer(2) Have Growing Tomatoes!
On Thursday we planted Sugar Snack, Captain Lucky and Michael Pollan in containers.
Before we planted, we dumped the dirt in two of the containers onto the concrete patio. I carefully went through the dirt and picked out what I had previously thought were cutworms. We had found out earlier in the day that they were fig beetle larvae.
Today I pulled the grass out of the remaining cutout area that I said we weren't planting. That took a couple of hours. It went faster than I expected. I used a claw-like tool to separate the grass from the dirt. Then I turned over the top layer of dirt with a shovel and picked out more grass.
We replaced the dead Dark Galaxy seedling with Ananas Noire. In the newly grass cleared area we planted Blue Beauty and Pineapple.
On Thursday I noticed that Stupice has a growing tomato! I checked again today and Stupice has at least four growing tomatoes. Volunteer(2) in the third raised bed has two growing tomatoes as well. Volunteer(2) is the best looking tomato plant of them all right now.
The "koi pond" tomatoes look terrific. Sunchocola looks the best but there is no clunker in the area. They all look good.

It's Over For 2013
September 7 harvest includes 28 Black Cherry, 11 Sweet 100, 5 SunGold(1), 4 Pineapple, 3 Blue Beauty, 3 Vorlon, 3 Juliet, 3 Piement, 3 Dr. Wyche's Yellow, 2 Isis Candy, 2 Ananas Noire, 2 "Something Orange" (Dr. Wyche's Yellow), Shah/Mikado, Kellogg's Breakfast, German Orange Strawberry, Snow White, Supersweet 100 and Husky Red(1) for a total of 75 tomatoes.
We've now harvested over 650 Black Cherry tomatoes (664), over 100 Juliet tomatoes (101) and exactly 100 Isis Candy tomatoes.
While harvesting I partially pulled out the cages of the plants I wanted pulled, leaving them at an odd angles. I had business to attend to later that day and I wasn't going to be around when the gardeners arrived.
My wife had the gardeners pull out all the container plants as well. There were several container plants that were still producing so while I was surprised I guess I was okay with it.
But I later found out the gardeners had also pulled out Black Cherry, with neither of us wanted to happen. Ugh. They still didn't pull out Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red(2), which was supposed to be pulled the last time they were here.
For the record, here's what got pulled: Husky Cherry Red, Vorlon, Black Cherry, Shah/Mikado, Kellogg's Breakfast, Blue Beauty, German Orange Strawberry, Piement, Crynkovic, Speckled Roman(2), Amos Coli, Ananas Noire, "Something Orange", Juliet, Sweet 100, "Rosella Purple", Supersweet 100, Isis Candy, Husky Red(1) and Husky Red(2).
After Black Cherry was pulled...our heart wasn't in it anymore.
September 8 harvest includes 2 SunGold(1), 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow, 2 Snow White and Pineapple for a total of 7 tomatoes.
September 12 harvest includes 7 SunGold(2), 3 SunGold(1) and 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow for a total of 12 tomatoes.
September 14 harvest includes 4 SunGold(2), Dr. Wyche's Yellow and Snow White for a total of 6 tomatoes.
And the rest of the tomato plants were pulled by the gardeners. They included Pineapple, Dr. Wyche's Yellow, SunGold(1), SunGold(2), Snow White and (finally) Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red(2).
A lot of these tomatoes were given away to friends and family.
So for the year we ended up harvesting 3811 tomatoes. This is our worst yearly harvest total so far.
The only good news is now we have the time and space to prepare the soil for next year.

Wednesday's harvest includes 5 Sweet 100, 5 Garden Peach, 3 SunGold(2), 2 Husky Cherry Red, 2 Supersweet 100, 2 Black Cherry, 2 Snow White, Pineapple, Dr. Wyche's Yellow (13 ounces), SunGold(1), Ananas Noire (8.5 ounces), "Rosella Purple" (Aunt Ruby's German Green) and Husky Red(1) for a total of 27 tomatoes.
There was no harvest on Thursday.
I don't remember the exact day it was made...but my wife made tomato sauce from our tomatoes. She let the sauce simmer for six hours and pulled out the skins as they separated. After boiling it down she added various spices and on a whim added green olives. I don't know what it was but we both agreed that this was the best sauce she ever made! And my wife has made fabulous tomato sauce before. But it was absolutely out of this world delicious.
Friday's harvest includes 8 SunGold(1), 6 SunGold(2), 4 Garden Peach, 4 Husky Cherry Red, 3 Amos Coli, 3 Supersweet 100, 3 Yellow Perfection, 2 Juliet, 2 Isis Candy, Pineapple, Dr. Wyche's Yellow (8.5 ounces), Shah/Mikado, Snow White, Cuor de Bue and Husky Red(2) for a total of 41 tomatoes.
There was no harvest on Saturday.
However, my wife watered the back yard tomatoes on this day. A couple of days prior she had watered the front yard tomatoes.
In the evening we tried one of the Dr. Wyches's Yellow tomatoes (sweet and yummy) and an Aunt Ruby's German Green (same for the interior, but had a thicker skin). Both worked.
Sunday's harvest includes 6 SunGold(2), 5 SunGold(1), 5 Shah/Mikado, 4 Black Cherry, 3 Husky Cherry Red, 3 Snow White, 3 Supersweet 100, 2 Juliet, 2 Yellow Perfection, 2 Blue Beauty, 2 Garden Peach, Amos Coli, Speckled Roman(1), Dr. Wyche's Yellow (11.5 ounces), Jersey Giant, Black and Brown Boar, Japanese Black Trifele, "Something Orange", Cuor de Bue, "Rosella Purple" (Aunt Ruby's German Green) and Husky Red(1) for a total of 47 tomatoes.
Monday's harvest includes 4 Supersweet 100, 3 Isis Candy, 3 Snow White, 2 Black Cherry, 2 SunGold(1), 2 Cuor de Bue, SunGold(2), Husky Cherry Red, Yellow Perfection, Dr. Wyche's Yellow (13 ounces), Jersey Giant, Piement, Japanese Black Trifele, Speckled Roman(2) and Juliet for a total of 25 tomatoes.
I found a hornworm eating a Grande tomato today. I was really surprised by it but there it was! I tossed the hornworm away and threw away the tomato.
Today's harvest includes 13 Black Cherry, 3 Isis Candy, Husky Cherry Red, Pineapple, SunGold(1), Blue Beauty, Grande, Garden Peach, Amos Coli, Snow White, Cuor de Bue (6 ounces), Supersweet 100 and Juliet for a total of 27 tomatoes.

Last night our local computer group had a board meeting. We brought along tomatoes for tasting and for handing out. The tomatoes we tested were Piement, Aunt Ruby's German Green and Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red(2) -- all were very nice.
My back felt good enough to harvest but it will be a few days before it is back to normal.

Harvested Three New Tomatoes!
Wednesday's harvest includes 9 Garden Peach, 8 Yellow Perfection, 8 Black Cherry, 6 Blue Beauty, 5 Green Grape, 5 Jaune Flamme, 4 Pineapple, 4 Isis Candy, 4 Jersey Giant, 3 Shah/Mikado, 3 Piement, 3 Indigo Rose, 3 Husky Cherry Red, 2 Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red(2) (new), 2 SunGold(2), 2 Kellogg's Breakfast (8 ounces), 2 "Something Orange" (20 ounces, 14 ounces), 2 Husky Red(1), 2 Supersweet 100, 2 Speckled Roman(2), 2 Speckled Roman(1), Hungarian Heart, Porkchop, Paul Robeson, Missouri Pink Love Apple, SunGold(1), Grande (11 ounces), Snow White, Juliet and Husky Red(2) for a total of 90 tomatoes.
This will in all probability be our high harvest day (90 tomatoes). That's...not very high. However, the "Something Orange" tomatoes look great and the Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red(2) looks pretty good for being in the raised bed.
I believe most of these tomatoes were brought down to my in-law's residence by my wife.
Thursday's harvest includes 6 Yellow Perfection, 5 Jersey Giant, 5 Black Cherry, 4 Aunt Ruby's German Green (8 ounces, 6 ounces, new), 4 Green Grape, 4 Garden Peach, 4 Indigo Rose, 4 Blue Beauty, 2 Kellogg's Breakfast, 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Pineapple, 2 Supersweet 100, 2 Speckled Roman(2), 2 Porkchop, 2 Shah/Mikado, 2 Paul Robeson (6 ounces), 2 Amos Coli (7 ounces), 2 Isis Candy, 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow, Husky Cherry Red, Crynkovic, Ananas Noire, "Something Orange" (14.5 ounces), Cuor de Bue (10 ounces), Juliet and Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red(2) for a total of 65 tomatoes.
The Aunt Ruby's German Green look quite good. Most of the tomatoes have a very light red blush to go along with the darker green mature color.
Friday's harvest includes 9 Black Cherry, 7 Jersey Giant, 4 Supersweet 100, 4 Yellow Perfection, 3 SunGold(1), 3 Isis Candy, 3 Green Grape, 3 Shah/Mikado, 2 Juliet, 2 Porkchop, 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow, 2 Paul Robeson, 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Garden Peach, Amos Coli, Indigo Rose, Husky Cherry Red, Pineapple, SunGold(2), Blue Beauty, Pineapple Pig, Snow White, Ananas Noire, "Something Orange" (12 ounces), Sweet 100 and Husky Red(1) for a total of 60 tomatoes.
Saturday's harvest includes 7 Snow White, 5 Black Cherry, 5 Sweet 100, 5 Shah/Mikado, 4 Garden Peach, 3 Supersweet 100, 3 Porkchop, 2 Husky Cherry Red, 2 Cuor de Bue (6 ounces), 2 SunGold(1), 2 Jaune Flamme, 2 Blue Beauty, 2 Pineapple Pig (6 ounces), 2 Isis Candy, 2 Garden Peach, Amos Coli, Piement, Japanese Black Trifele, Kellogg's Breakfast (6 ounces), Pineapple, Dr. Wyche's Yellow (7 ounces), Aunt Ruby's German Green (13 ounces), Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red(2) (6.5 ounces) and Husky Red(2) for a total of 54 tomatoes.
I went down to Orange County in the morning. I brought two days harvest of tomatoes. I gave a bag to a barista in Tarzana, two bags of tomatoes to my mechanic in Westminster, and two bags of tomatoes to my mother. Later on I visited my in-laws. My wife and I got back late in separate cars.
Sunday's harvest includes 9 Sweet 100, 8 Black Cherry, 6 Blue Beauty, 5 Snow White, 5 Garden Peach, 5 Jaune Flamme, 4 Rosella Purple (8 ounces, new), 4 Shah/Mikado, 3 Indigo Rose, 3 Husky Cherry Red, 3 Pineapple, 2 Amos Coli (6.5 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 Jersey Giant, 2 Speckled Roman(2), 2 Pineapple Pig (6 ounces), 2 Dr. Wyche's Yellow (9 ounces, 12 ounces), 2 Isis Candy, 2 Yellow Perfection, Hungarian Heart, Vorlon, Speckled Roman(1), Black and Brown Boar, SunGold(1), Japanese Black Trifele, Cuor de Bue, Juliet and Supersweet 100 for a total of 78 tomatoes.
"Rosella Purple" is another Aunt Ruby's German Green. First off, it's not purple, it's green. We tried it for dinner. It was delicious but it was Aunt Ruby's German Green. I'll need to adjust the spreadsheet at some point...
Earlier we had tried Paul Robeson and it was actually pretty good. The skin was a bit tough but otherwise was just fine.
Today's harvest includes 14 Snow White, 4 Husky Cherry Red, 4 Pineapple, 4 Black Cherry, 4 Jaune Flamme, 3 Indigo Rose, 3 Yellow Perfection, 3 Green Grape, 3 Blue Beauty, 2 Porkchop, 2 Amos Coli, 2 Supersweet 100, 2 Isis Candy, 2 Piement, 2 Jersey Giant, 2 Aunt Ruby's German Green (6 ounces, 6 ounces), 2 SunGold(2), 2 Shah/Mikado, Paul Robeson, Dr. Wyche's Yellow, Garden Peach and Husky Red(2) for a total of 64 tomatoes.
My wife roasted today's tomatoes for tonight's dinner. They were terrific with the pasta.
During this period we harvested over 2000 tomatoes for the year (now we stand at 2157) and over 1000 harvested tomatoes in the back yard for July (now stands at 1093).
I know updates have been spotty but we've been busy with life...

I know updates have been spotty but we've been busy with life...
